Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

1996 Turkey Flat Shiraz - From 1847 planted vines, the Turkey Flat Shiraz 1996 is a masterclass in Barossa old vine longevity. The colour remains a deep, brooding ruby, with a subtle fade to garnet at the rim. Aromatically, it still hums with primary dark fruits - plum/blackberry/curants joined by ...

Ochota Barrels '+5V OV' Chardonnay 2014 & ‘186’ Grenache 2013

The 2013 Ochota Barrels ‘186’ is the very essence of why I love Grenache. Very pale/perfumed/elegant/intense/energetic/balanced all with a deft touch much like the top end, high altitude, Gredos Mountain Grenache. Still young and tight this needs further cellar time to unfurl. £40.00 on sale. Very l...

TN: Some Rhone & Oz Rhone styles from 2003

2003 Seppelt ‘St Peters’ Shiraz, Grampians Loads of aroma & flavour here in an elegant way. Not as complex (a bit clumsy?) as expected, I suspect this is at the younger end of the spectrum. The palate is generous enough with velvety fruit, moderate tannins & a decent finish. Maybe this was ...

1991 Tyrrell's 'Vat 9' Hunter Valley Shiraz

At 27 years I was expecting a brown wine here. Instead, I get deep garnet with little bricking, zero seepage on the cork and very little sediment. The wine itself is medium bodied with good vibrant but evolved earthy Hunter fruit. Secondary notes of old leather, boot polish, a touch of smoked liquor...

Unfortunately, I didn't/couldn't get to try most of these wines for varying reasons but appreciate the reccos. I didn't write up the 2017 Nick O'Leary 2017 Riesling. The two CD wines I did buy/drink/wrote up were despite my mother's appaling wine glasses... 2016 Ravensworth ‘Seven Months’ White Blen...

Canberra District wines mixed case suggestions

When over in the ACT 18 months ago I enjoyed the local Canberra District wines I drunk. I’m back over again this November and would like to get an ‘interesting’ selection of 12 mixed wines from the area sent to one Canberra address in advance. Besides Clonakilla & some Eden Road, Canberra Distri...

Re: TN- Lark Hill Mr.V 2013

I've always had a soft spot for Lark Hill wines and what a diverse range make there now which sadly none of which is exported to UK/Europe anymore, mainly due to EU bureaucratic polices & small production I suspect. Funnily enough it was the Gruner Veltliner I wanted to try as I've never had a v...

TN- Lark Hill Mr.V 2013

Back from a trip back to Canberra and while I didn’t drink that many local wines this was the standout from a few winery tours; and especially so as Australia generally can’t make white Rhone blends very well at all! However, this Canberra District Marsanne, Roussanne & Viognier bl...

2003 Jean Grivot Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau Not as butch as anticipated even with the 03 style. Red fruits, smoke, bitter chocolate and tannins on the palate which become refreshingly delicate after a long decant. A bit pissy and vegetal at only 13%vol and I didn’t find this as delic...

1983 Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmain.
Peat, slate, seashells with a hint of oxidation and a earthy lemon profile. Balanced acidity with a real saline caramel textured finish. A lovely old fashioned Chablis. Seemed more 2003 than 1983!

Re: TN: 2007 Domaine la Barroche ‘Terroir’ Chateauneuf-decadent!

PS I ment to say that this is the 'most satisfying' of 2007 Chateauneuf I've drunk to date. Most of the CdR's are above average, very drinkable off the bat & are of exceptional quality but in the equivalent vintage from CdP they often seems OTT with mega ripeness especially at such a young age. ...

TN: 2007 Domaine la Barroche ‘Terroir’ Chateauneuf-decadent!

This is the Barroche base wine, FWIW. I have to say that it is the smoothest, most voluptuous, delicious and drinkable 2007 Chateauneuf wine I’ve drunk so far. Spotless & full of vibrant dark summer berries; the cleanness of fruit exudes energy and a Chateauneuf we can all merrily slosh d...
