Re: Early adopters - Screwcap in Oz

Recall a tasting I attended with a small group where we tried side by side the ‘74 and ‘75 Leo Buring’s under both cork and screw all.

Re: Impressions of the Hunter Valley - what happened here?

Well it’s disappointing that people take a negative view on a region when only going to the tourist traps ! Lots a great cellar doors, restaurants and views (try Audrey Wilkinson - views, Bistro Molines - views and food, Muse and Muse Kitchen- food as examples). Regarding wines/styles, Personally I ...

Re: Wellington & Martinborough info

Always liked Tirohana (in the past some of their Piniot's have been highly regarded), and they also do a good feed ! Also suggest a quick beverage at The Martinborough Hotel, and a good cheese shop on the main drag into town. Another that has impressed is Margrain

Re: Sydney Bring whatever wine dinner 1 15th of August

How about a sparkling burgundy (SB) ? Went to a SB tasting at an Indian a few years back (about a dozen different SB's) and they went surprisingly well across a good range of curries.

Re: Storing wine on the cheap side

Red Red, Totally agree with Michael. If thats the fluctuation than you have it pretty good. I also have a split level house and store approx 3500 bottles under the house, and have done so for approx 22 years. I must say in Sydney I can get even higher temps than you mention, but it slowly fluctuates...

Re: Muscat barrel from Stanton & Killean

Burges,

Possibly wrong terminology, perhaps should have said "Potassium Metabisulphite, Sodium Metabisulphite" etc, which is to reduce bacterial spoilage etc, which can be a major issue when running a solera system !

Re: Muscat barrel from Stanton & Killean

CK Have a 23 ltr muscat barrel in my cellared and also use S & K. Commenced back in 2005 with a 7 ltr seppeltsfield barrel, but decided it was to small (now have it in my bar and top it up from the main barrel under the house). I have mainly used S & K fruit over the years with occasional to...

Re: TN: Hunter wines with dinner

Polymer, Not a cellar door as such, but from their home. Occassionly there is a sign on the bend on Marrowbone road (at the small Old Hillside sign, between Mt Pleasant and Ivanhoe), saying open, but generally use their website or give them a call. Last time I caught up with them (earlier this year)...

Re: TN: Hunter wines with dinner

Graham, with regards the 2012 Krinklewood, it's worth noting that 2012 was a very wet vintage and a large number of producers didn't release whites let alone Reds. Out in Broke I think it may have been slightly better, but still very wet and I guess this type of style is the result ! Pleased to hear...

Re: Vintage 2014

Long time lurker (but did contribute a while back, but forgot my details etc). Anyway to be totally transparent, I do have some involvement with a vineyard in the Hunter (not surprising given my handle) ! 2014 is looking extremely promising for both reds and whites, which I can honesty report has no...
