Re: Aussie cabernet to line up against serious Bordeaux

Wendouree an obvious one.
Otherwise Penfolds Bin 169. 2008/09/10 are stonkingly good. 100% Coonawarra and 100% new French oak. If budget permits one of the Block 42s.
2004 is only 13.4% alc, so lower than most anticipate. Massive density .

Re: Wendouree Wine Notes

Recently had a dinner with a few mates in adelaide with a wendouree being the focus. Unfortunately due to a few late pull outs we ended up with 8 people. In retrospect this was probably perfect amount of people as we could openly discuss the wines and look at them without rushing to see the next win...

Re: Wine Tasting Etiquette

Depends on the cellar door and the tasting layout. A lot more cellar doors i am noticing a tasting charge that is waived on purchase. If the service sucks, dont buy anything. If the service was great but you didnt like the wines, as the others have said. a token $20 wine that will be on gifted to so...

Re: Best value/discount cellar doors - Barossa

Try Penfolds,
the Magill CD had 6 packs of bin 28 for $150, same as Bin 23 and 138. 150 was $330 a 6! ($540rrp)
Surprisingly good prices that arent advertised externally.

Re: Screw caps

With the SC v Cork debate in mind... Why is 2010 Pennies 707 under SC and 2010 Grange under cork? I get a sense that if Grange was sealed with a screw cap then its icon status might be compromised. Is it possible that the theatre and lack of appeal of a screw cap is more important than what the cor...

Re: NEWS: Penfolds rip out half of the Magill Estate vines

The plantings in block 2 were mainly from late 60s and the rows infront of the restaurant were transplanted from the Eden Valley in the early 1990s. Original Grange vines surround the cottage. Cuttings to be planted from Kalimna, strong components from 3C (bin 170) amongst others. Bordeaux and Burgu...

I work for Pennies in the Magill CD, and they are relaunching the whole Kalimna club. They were definitely the first to admit that the ball was dropped somewhat and that it really wasnt the offering that it used to be. As of now, they will be trying to tailor more events to indicidual customers purc...

Fri sat sun was pay tastings but a few friends headed in and got sneaky free pours of it along with the luxury items that were all on tasting all weekend. Rwt...
