Re: Post Cellar Install - Next conundrum - Insurance

I'm interested to learn where people store wine for those that have insurance under their existing home and contents cover. I have wine listed under my home and contents and the insurer was happy that I had a list or record of wines and values etc. They were happy to even cover the wine when it was ...

Re: transporting wine internationally

I stuff checked in luggage with as much as possible both international and domestic using simple bubble wrap and have had no problems. However many years ago using an inferior product a bottle of port broke and the wife was not impressed when it stained much of her clothes. Carl That's just outrage...

Re: A month long Italian wine & food adventure

Reading with great interest as I'm likely to be in France and Italy in mid to late December. My daughter has a French trip to of all place Bordeaux (just terrible!) and we intend to get back to Milan where we have stayed before. Definitely will be fitting in a Barolo visit and tastings at some stage...

Bristro Giuillaume @ Crown

If you arrange in advance they will allow BYO ($40 per bottle). Great for an aged bottle from the cellar.

Re: Flying visit to Ballarat... advice please??

Neither Brae or the Royal Mail will work time wise, unless you plan to spend the bulk of your day getting there and back. The Daylesford options food wise would be both very good and considerably closer. Pyrenees option was more based on the wine as opposed to food options and that there were at lea...

Re: Flying visit to Ballarat... advice please??

Hi Tigger As Cuttlefish has rightly pointed out, Ballarat is not the gourmet centre of Central Victoria. It continues to baffle me how a place the size of Ballarat doesn't have a restaurant that locals instantly go, oh you need to eat at [insert name]! Sturt Street, Lake Wendouree and Sovereign Hill...

Re: Venice, Rome & Paris Wine Bars & Shops

I also think Lavinia was expensive but it was a great spectacle non the less. I have linked a TripAdvisor thread I wrote some time ago on Paris. Included Lavinia and another wine bar not far away that was great for tasting. In the context of a family holiday with young teenagers its limited but hope...

Re: Bordeaux and St Emillion wineries

Lynch Bages is one of the better tours where you can taste - but not buy. Ch Pichon Baron is another, you can both taste and purchase there and the Chateaux itself is stunning. If time is not one your side you can always hook up for a tour, there are a number of operators of varying level and access...

Re: What vintage did you stop buying Penfolds reds 389 'n ab

Interesting to note the "starting" prices for the Bin release today. Dan Murphy opened 389 & 407 @ $59.80 with Bin 28 @ $29.90 and Bin 128 @$34.90. 1st Choice opened at $55.90 for 389 & 407 and $28.50 for 28. Not long after, Dan's down to $55.80 for 389/407 and $28.40 for the 28/128.

Bin 389 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2008 2009 St Henri 2002 2003 2004 Too pricey for me after 2004 RWT 2005 Kemneys had them on special Bin 707 2008 - Dan Murphy had them very cheap at one stage Unless they are heavily discounted at the big chains, I can't see me bothering this year. Would like to get...

2010 Wendouree Shiraz

I was looking on the Langtons Melbourne Exchange site at lunch time today. Noticed 2 x 6 bottles of the 2010 Shiraz on offer at a mere $172.50 a pop. What do you lucky mail listers get the privillage for per bottle? I'm assumming the ownners would be none too happy if they knew who was selling at th...
