Re: Poll: Does Brettanomyces help or hurt fine wine?

I'm not a Brett Nazi. But if you asked me if I would like it in my wine or not, I would say not.

Don't think it 'helps' any wine, but minute amounts aren't going to necessarily ruin a wine either.

I don't buy Rockford, Noon, Wendouree etc. and expect I never will. There are better wines out there, in Australia and the rest of the world. Billy, whether there are better wines out there is subjective, but I think you are on a losing argument if you don't think that: * Wendouree reds are unique ...

Re: Para Port 104

Something strange going on with the sales of Para ports at auction(1930,1939,1947etc). Prices (opening and finishing) have doubled or tripled in the past 12-18 months. But almost all get passed in. A real shame, as I was regularly buying and enjoying them. Why the massive shift in price? I sure hope...

Re: Woolworths, Dan Murphy's and Langtons

I stopped using Langtons a while ago because of this type of behavior. Unprofessional at the least.

Fortunately there are other auction houses that don't operate with such underhand and non-transparent practices.

Re: Making use of sommeliers

What is 'fraudulent' about that? Any wine at least 1.5, twice or more times the rrp? No, that's called a business decision. If you don't want to pay it, don't. Buy the wine retail and drink it at home. No, when a Sommelier gives you his/her professional opinion. This wine would match your meal etc....

Re: Making use of sommeliers

I like Sommeliers to create the list, then bring me the wines that I order from it. If a sommelier can create a good list, with a variety of well chosen wines, at acceptable prices then most of their job is done. Usually I will discuss the wines with my dining companions, only consulting the sommeli...

Good food can be pricey and a little hard to find. Well worth a visit though. The Rhone is AWESOME. The cou...

In such cases where they figure people aren't going to buy, the premium wines are usually kept under the counter for serious/loyal customers. I guess that's where the intelligence & experience of the CD staff kicks in. Ian n4sir, What do you do if you have a 'serious/loyal' customer and another...

Once we let winemakers add anything we are on your slippery slope. In that situation we would not be getting great wines. We have seen increases in alc...
