Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Bass Phillip Estate Pint Noir 2016. First bottle I've had of the Estate. I tend to prefer my pinot more at the more masculine end of the spectrum, with black fruits but this is really engaging and harmonious in a very feminine way... Started the bottle last night and will finish it tonight with some...

Re: Kitchener Wine Fridges
I've got one of these and the only issue I experienced in the 20 odd years I used it was the fan motor went. They are useless without them. I just got a regular electrician in and they sourced a suitable motor. The peltier cells are supposed to last some huge number of hours and there are many of th...

Re: Cellar Arranging - First world problem
I have a section for each of shiraz, cabernet/bordeaux blends, Riesling, chardonnay, pinor noir and a smaller on for semillon. Then I have verticals (columns) by vintage. Some require two columns or even three. Regardless of provenance. So if I am looking for a specific bottle I just go the grape an...

Re: Does anybody else having Big Problem with Australia Post delivery
I can live with the slow delivery - it's just how things are these days. What I struggle with is wine touring the country en route. Post picked up a case in Margaret River, sat on that for a week or two then took it to Perth and sent it to Sydney. I'm in Victoria. Not sure where it is now - the trac...

Re: When are we gonna drink all this Vino?
I have about 1000 bottles and am 50. I built a 2000 bottle cellar two years ago and have gone from 600-1000 since. As I squirrelled away bottles it gave me a bit of a mortality check (thinking "I'm 48, I want to drink this in 20 yrs, I'll be 68......68!!@@###!!"). I figure we drink 150-200...

Hi All. We put this holiday off for 12 months as the world went mad the week before we were to go last year. We made it up to McV on the Sunday. We came up early because we wanted to get home for a late lunch. Tried D'Arenberg because they are open early but did not realise that you had to pay entry...

Hi All We are over to SA for a week, staying at the beach at Carrackalinga. I've been to McLaren Vale once before (went to Shingleback, D'Arenberg, Coriole, and Kays Bros), have not been to Langhorne Creek and really don't know much about this area. If anyone has recommendations for cellar doors and...

Wine fridge looking for new home
Hi All I have an old 252 bottle Kitchener wine cabinet. I bought it new circa 2002 (was about $2800 from memory). It's not real pretty - basically industrial looking - but has worked well in sometimes pretty extreme conditions. It has only missed a beat a couple of years ago when the motor that driv...

I'm typically not a big Sang/Chianti man but the Parri Chianti Riserva Montespertoli DOCG 2015 for a cheap is outstanding (and decidedly cheap).

Internationally Finland and Iceland will become the dominant forces in the qualit...

eating in Hunter
Hi All
I am looking for suggestions for a good place to lunch in the Hunter Valley with three small boys. Would like a good meal but don't want to go anywhere where a little boyishness is an issue. Preferably outside so they can run and jump a bit.... It will be on a Saturday.
Thanks

Early adopters - Screwcap in Oz
Hi All I was at a garage sale on the weekend and bought some bottles of wine. One was a B Seppelt & Sons Riesling (on the cap) with a lions club label from the caravan convention in Warracknabeal in Oct 1983. So I'm guessing the wine was a 1981 or 82 vintage (vintage not on the label). It was un...

Riesling. I started buying Seppelt Drumborg from 2003 with a case. I've still got most of those and they have a ways to go yet. I reckon Howard Park and some others from the west age well (eg Bellarmine). Knight's Granite Hills ages beautifully.
