Moving house
I have to move out to a new house and have to store my small wine cellar for about 6 weeks. I have about 50 bottles of white wine (chardonay ,reisling and a few saturnes) in a Vintec wine fridge which I have to empty and store. Will it hurt the wine for it to be boxed and bought back too room temp a...

Thanks for the reply, the First are very hard to find. There doesn't seem to be any retailer in OZ that stocks them.

Re: Universal Glasses
could I ask where you get the Schott first edition from and what sort of price are they? I particularly like the older Burgundy glasses which were a bargain at $15 a pair when on special at a certain large retail outlet

Re: Hisense wine fridge
I have a 35 bottle Vintec for about 8 years and thought it wasn't big enough so I bought the 58 Hisense and had both operating but the Hisense stopped working after 10 months so I got it replaced under warranty with another and it lasted 14 months before it too stopped working. Hisense were good wit...

buying mail order
do you buy wine by mail order this time of year? it seems there are a lot of wines released at this time when it is very hot and I would think it is not good to have wine sitting in the back of a delivery van for a couple of days.

Re: postage cost
I asked because I got a bit of a shock when I got a members offer at $60 a bottle in a six pack instead of $80 and then saw the postage was $80. I buy regularly from a couple of wineries in the Yarra Valley, Beechworth and Mornington Peninsular and have never paid more then $20 and often free postag...

postage cost
what is the most you would expect to pay for postage of a case of 6 bottles with a value of $380 from Melbourne to Gosford in NSW central coast? I know some wineries charge $10 or $15 and some charge zero over a certain dollar amount.

Re: Any love for Merlot
Since I asked the question if there is any love for Merlot I have had a few Aussie, French and US merlots ranging in price from $15 to $60 and most have been quite good but recently I tried the Blue Poles Allouran and the Reserve merlot and find them to be a step above all the others I have tried. I...

Re: Any love for Merlot
only ever had one good Aussie merlot... the 1994 Petaluma, an effort they failed to repeat since. Beautiful wine, was still going strong 5 years ago when I last saw it. If you want good, cheap Merlot, look out for Lalande de Pomerol 2015, might be as good as 2009. 2009 Lalande de Pomerol produced l...

Any love for Merlot
Any recommendations for the best Aussie Merlot? most I have tried have not been super expensive wines and while they are good drinking they don't sort of seem like top class wines that the French make, I was wondering if there is anything better made here?

Re: Wine cabinet / fridge
I must say I am having a bit of a problem getting my head around the price of some of these fridges, I think I will go with the Grand Cru as It seems to be better suited to my budget at $1500 for the 94 bottle size. Most of my small collection doesn't last much past a year or so as I cant wait to dr...

Has anyone had any experience with Grand Cru wine fridges? I think they are Australian company and the prices are good compared to the Vintec but not sure where they are made.

2015 Usher Tinkler reserve Hunter Valley Chardonnay, don't know much about styles but we had a 2014 Shaw & smith M3 Chardonnay a couple of nights before and couldn't pick a favourite, excellent wine and well priced.

Grape harvesting?
Do many vineyards in Australia harvest their grapes by hand picking? At what price range would you expect a wine to be hand picked? I was recently in the Napa valley and saw a couple of large vineyards using mechanical harvesters and was surprised at the amount of leaf material that ends up in the g...

I just bought a Quattro Mano Gracia 2013 which is a bit more expensive than most local Temp at $48 and was a very nice wine, also bought a Brown Bros at $14 and will try that over the weekend.

Any love for tempranillo here and which would you recommend? both local and Euro, although most of the examples that I have seen on the shelves seem to be pretty cheap weather local or import, so I wonder if they are any good.

Bests Great Western Bin1 or Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff edge are both very good. It would be very hard to pick one as there are a heap of good wines available in this price range.

When I went I phoned ahead and made an appointment before hand at Giaconda and Sorrenburg and just called into Amulet, Pennyweight and Indigo. Giaconda was worth the trip by its self. We also called in to Brown Bros at Milawa.

How long after being opened will a champagne or sparkling still be good to drink? In our household, and among friends, it would be about half an hour. Cheers ...................... Mahmoud. That's the same as our place, with most wine the Mrs has one glass and I drink the rest usually but unfortuna...

opened sparkling shelf life?
How long after being opened will a champagne or sparkling still be good to drink? I have often left chardonnay and shiraz for a couple of days after having a glass with either the screw top or a rubber stopper in the bottle and putting them in the fridge and they have still been good and on some occ...

Any love for Chilean or Argentinean wines here? I have seen a few cheapies around under $20 and wondered if there are better quality wines from this region. Cabernet Sav seems to be popular as is Carmenere and they mostly blend similar to a Bordeaux. Any recommendations?

Re: Domaine Michel Lafarge
That's a Pinot noir from a premier cru vineyard ( Lafarge is a well respected producer in Burgundy) and I would think it would be approx worth $100. Probably a good idea to drink it sooner rather than put it away.

Re: International postage costs
The reason I asked was I got an email from one vineyard that the postage will increase about 300 % over what it was the last couple of years which will bring it up around $250 for a case of 6 not including taxes. In the past few years that I can remember I have had to pay WET of 29% on the price of ...

Re: Which Prosecco
I have bought a couple of the Valdobbiadene and all have been around the $20 mark and they have been good, I normally spend around $60 to $100 for a French fiz and the Proseccos aren't up to that standard though. Also tried a couple from the King valley in Vic, for the price the Mrs thinks they are ...
