Re: A quick look at some WA wineries

Thanks Luke. Great to see someone flying the flag for WA - what a trip! Beautiful scenery across the wide area you covered, eh. For 20 yrs I've been telling people to visit WA - it's truly a world-class wine destination. And if you're a foodie, OMG there's some bloody superb meals to be had all over...

Re: Baby Penfold's

Everyone has different tastes - even a**holes like you Polymer. Viva la difference. And I think only cynical curmudgeons like you would say Penfolds make poor wine. Have a great weekend... And life.

Re: Penfolds Grange as an investment

I bought some '98 Grange - when I came to auction it in 2008, it hadn't appreciated at all! Got my money back - just. Goes to prove that wine's a drink for enjoying, not investing for the average wino like me. Another sobering tale - a Hollywood film producer mate of mine had $500,000 worth of Frenc...

Here in the West - another fantastic summer. Another great vintage for WA!

Sorry you easterners.

Re: Baby Penfold's

Hey Newworld et al, Ordered a bottle of 2010 Majella Musician yesterday at a cafe - gotta say I'm usually a BIG fan - but OMG what a let-down! A bit thin, rough (rustic), very tannic and not at all a baby (substitute) 389. Gag. I couldn't finish one glass - had to tip the rest (actually gave it to t...

Re: Baby Penfold's

Just thought, 'elegant' may also mean 'subtle' in which case... ain't for me.

Re: Baby Penfold's

Thanks mate - I'm here to learn, as well as pontificate! Yeah, it's funny the language writers use, like 'elegant'. It's a word I've got to hate! Doesn't describe much. Being in WA, I'm very used to 'elegant' for MR wines - whites as well. But I reckon he's saying a mixture of 'lighter bodied' and '...

Re: Baby Penfold's

As a fellow newbie to the board, I think you're being quite reasonable - probably most people want as high quality for as little dough as poss. There may be some sniffy people who might like to have a pop at you, but I'm not one of them. Hey, I just want to know what's good to drink! Reds aren't rea...

Re: The Eternal Search for a full Malolactic Chardonnay

I haven't got ESP so you may be right - Graham may just want to find a big, blousey, cuddly chard amongst the increasing numbers of lighter bodied citrus fruit driven chardies coming through. If you're out there, Graham, please re-enter the discussion and tell us exactly what flavour profile you're ...

Oh, and avoid cork if you're buying a couple of bottles.

Re: Red / White from 2008 & 2009 for 20years keeping

You could try Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay. I read the '82 was still drinking well. Better still, flick them an email and ask them - I'm sure they would love to discuss your quest! However, expect to pay around $100/bottle but it may well be worth it. Another tactic would be to search the au...

Re: The Eternal Search for a full Malolactic Chardonnay

Like all special things - get on their mailing list! Lakes Folly has a reasonable amount of Malo - it's a lovely drink. Leeuwin Art Series is my fav (overall) but I think, has reduced the Malo content over the years (but I could be wrong). 05 was super, 06 - a cool year in MR - was a much lighter bo...

Re: The Eternal Search for a full Malolactic Chardonnay

Have just joined the board looking for recommendations for the elusive 100% malo's and am much amused that we all seem to be floundering in a sea of 'modern' - dare I say - homogenous chardonnay. Anyway, if you other Malo-mad folk out there want a bono fide 100% malo chardie - well, get ready for he...
