I don't have many whites in the cellar. Mainly now only some Clare and EV Rieslings under screw cap. When I went through the cellar to do a stock take last time (a few years back now) I pulled out all of the 'other whites' excluding my rizza's. I'd bought a couple of bottles of Virgara Adelaide Plai...

Try Jeanneret Big Fine Girl from the Clare Valley. Not sure if you can get it in NZ. A touch of sweetness there.

Never done it to be honest. Not for wine anyway. Got over my E-bay (or should I saw Trade Me - when I was in NZ) bug quite a few years back. However, I was lucky enough to have some lovely Pewsey Vale 1994 Riesling at a winery friends place just before xmas which was purchased from Grays and it was ...

I get a little suprised to hear that people aren't ready for the vintage. While the recent heat wave is unexpected to the extent...

For me it's sometimes quite random when buying at bottle shops. Pick a bottle or two and then I sometimes look for reviews or tasting notes on the net after the first glass. And, you'd be suprised at how many wines aren't reviewed and you can't find tasting notes for. So if I purely relied on a posi...

The only person I trust is me... I haven't found anyone that I can say I am aligned with in terms of similar tastes and likes. The closest I come to on the points fron (for those who rate with points) is GW at Winorama. But at the end of the day I'm not a consumer that picks a bottle because someone...

It's going to be a real busy time of year. Vintage has already started with the whites in the valley this week.

Try Bellescapes http://www.bellescapes.com/ if you're looking for some heritage and luxury with the accomodation.

Again, it will be busy so not sure how you'll go getting to talk to winemakers etc.

Cheers

I wonder how these would work with sparkling wines. My partner doesn't drink which is often an advatnage when going out. However, recently she's started enjoying Moscato and some sparklings. It is best to speak with a customs broker. I know a friend who imported over 100 bottles of whiskey into NZ and was able to get exemption on the duties & taxes as he could provide proof that it was a collection and not for sale. Not sure about the rules & regulations here. You could try one ...

I guess the question is where in the middle east are you? Perhaps I can give you some names of importers that you can directly contact. They do regular consolidations from Australia and if there is a market may be able to pick up a new wine or two.

I think the $20 mark is fairly appropriate for corkage / service. But I also think that it is also polite to send a glass to the kitchen for the head Chef. In regards to tipping I think this is fine. I've even tipped taxi drivers here in Australia if the service is right and especially if they get m...

Glen,

Had a quick look. What if the wine doesn't have bar codes? Most will from your major retailers but still a lot of wines may not. Magnums etc.

Maybe those with larger collections could comment further on this.
