To me, the most interesting point is the fact that the Chair of the Board owns one of the biggest nurseries that supplies the resistant rootstock. So let me get this right, the chair of the board to prevent phylloxera has a vested interest in selling rootsock that is resistant to it, The minister o...
When I think McLaren Shiraz I immediately think Dead Arm. also agree with Eileen Hardy and Wirra Wirra RSW. Chapel hill, The Vicar would have to be getting close too I never really thought of Clarendon Hills as McLaren Vale but I guess Australis would have to be up there ... though I've never tried ...
I used some 5l bulk buys to top up my barrell. Will the remaining 2l or so be ok sitting in those bottles until I need them? or do I need to do something further.
So where you all at with regards to a catch up in the CBD?
As for Mornington wineries, my 2 suggestions would be Paringa Estate so you can try all their lovely Pinots (all are usually on tasting may be a small fee) and Foxeys Hangout for a smaller winery that does some fantastic work.
reading this I am nearly crying. It woudl be an absoulte travesty if greed and self interest caused a weakening in protection ultimately destroying these precious old vines.
Well here goes, my notes will be nothing like Ian's pearler's (which I always enjoy reading) but i really enjoyed my flying visit yesterday. Frugal farmer.. a nothing wine quite frankly and essentially for me a waste of grenache and what ever else it is blended with, opened a few minutes before I a...
2009 Pirramimma Stocks Hill Shriaz/Petit Verdot opened last night Definite tartiness/plum flavours, drinks well nothing spectacular but solid and enjoyable, not sure its going to developmuch. Will see how it is tonight.
I have 98 and 06, the 98 is drinking well now and will go longer, the 2006 isn't ready really but I think I'd agree with those above saying it will be better. Haven't tried the 05 and dont see the need to now I still have 11 06's in storage
added a dozen 2009 Pirramimma Shiraz Petit Verdot to my collection, finally managed to get this one at the price I watned ($80 incl delivery and auction fees)
2008 Luskintyre Estate Adelaide Hills Cab Sav - Horrible think I might use the rest for cooking only 2008 Henry Holmes Barossa Cab Sav - Quite nice, once it opened up it was a lot smoother, not a great cab sav but comes into the good cateogry.
Apparantly the 07 Eileen Hardy Chardannay is rated up to 18 years cellaring potential so maybe when the 2010 gets released its possibly as good, though that was an exceptional year and given all the wet weather in 2010 I doubt it will be as good.
Only desert wines I've had lately have all been pretty good and are all cheaper than your $40 mark. Pirramimma Late Harvest Riesling (this is pretty cheap by half dozen) Herritage Estate Wines Botrytys Chardonnay is v.nice too though you may have to ring cellar door to get it. Innocent Bystander Cor...
I've never had a chardy that old, and I dont think any of the ones Im going to suggest would necessarily benefit from sitting that long but maybe try Shaw and Smith M3 (2010 not out yet) Hellens Hill Yarra Valley Chandon Yarra Valley Or for a bit more $ maybe a Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay Pe...
Split into two, those I've got from the auctions: 2008 Henry Holmes Shiraz x12 Just turned up on Grays, the 05 and 06 have both been good to me so I thought I'd give it a go. 2008 Henry Holmes Cab Sav x12 accidentally bidded on when I meant to bid on shiraz, damn using iphone to bid whilst on holida...
Just got back from a week and a bit up at surfers so the wines consumed tended to be young. 2009 Penfolds Bin 138 , was probably the first 138 i've tried, not as much clout as some other GSM's I've had before, and certainly needed to go down for a few years I think 2009 Wirra Wirra Church block not ...
Actually while we're on the topic, I got a muscat barrel (with muscat in) recently. The first pours had a lot of 'floaties' in it that were grey/greenish in colour Now several weeks later those floaties are very limited. Should I be concerned, it looks like maybe some sort of film formed on the barr...
Just to put my 2c in (which will have to be 5c until they're also phased out) I wont buy a cleanskin unless i've tasted or it or can trust the write up telling me it is 'same as labelled wine x' That trust doesnt extend very hard a lot of online e-tailers and so on often twist their words and so for...
