Re: 2005 Guigal and Gaja.
Hi All, it’s been a while. The Melbourne Auswine Crew got together on Saturday to look at the 2005 Guigal and Gaja, finished with an Amontillado. All wines were in climate control storage from release and showed really well. Really hard to pick winners and losers but I think the La Turque was the m...

Re: Rockford Basket Press Vertical
Just out of interest some crazy prices on early (80s) BPs at MW tonight. 1984 $1800 1985 $720 1986 $480 1987 $320 1988 no bid, but $270 price guide. 1990 and 1991 $250+ I stand by the claim that the second hand market is dead, but, if you happen to have any '84 BP, then make a few dollars. IIRC $8 ...

Re: Rockford Basket Press Vertical
Thanks Roscoe. First breakage ever! I stood up a BP2002 for two days and decanted for an hour. It’s lovely Shiraz in a 15% style. It’s not as classical as the preceding excellent 99,98,96 vintages. It was ripe and dark with spicy complexity and a touch of raisin. Full and gratifying in the mouth, i...

Re: TN: Wynns Coonawarra 'Black Label' Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
G'day I think the last time I looked at this wine was a couple of years ago, as part of a vertical I hosted. This was the group's tasting note on that occasion: Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2012: The usual blackcurrant, cassis, graphite and menthol on the nose, but some blueberri...

I’ve grabbed a 02 Basket Press to try in the next few days to hopefully get a better experience . Found a magnum of the 02 Basket Press I didn’t know I had and then knocked over and smashed a rare Italian magnum in the process. I'm very sorry to hear of the Italian Tragedy Jamie. Thanks Rossco, lucky to have a sixer and a few loose bottles of the 2002 BP. 2007 was a bit of a ho hum vintage, but this bottle showed very well. Cheers Craig Was my first of 3 bottles bottles bought directly from winery. Cannot wait to see the other two in the future. I have seen reports that thi...

2007 Rockford BP Lovely wine in its prime, good cork, inky black, good palate weight a twinge of sweetness. Great drinking with 5 years in the tank. Cheers Craig Had the 2002 BP Friday and what an amazing wine. Cooler vintage showed with a bit more fennel and aniseed, mocha and blue plums. Back che...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
It does give a good jolt to our expectations - serious reds, but with the 'fun' of fizz. I've also enjoyed some sparkling Loire (Cab Franc) reds recently - without the richness of sparkling shiraz, but a hell of a good picnic wine. That sounds right up my alley. If you have any favourite producers/...

Re: TN: Pewsey Vale Estate Riesling 2024
This is our staple house Riesling and we love the style they make.
1961 block is outstanding as well and a cellar favourite.
I feel the 2023 was a tad better than 2024, but it's a minor difference and quibble. Can't wait to try the 2025 which should be released in a few months.

From a wine dinner back in December (I'm way behind on my notes) Theme was extra special Xmas Pinot Wine #1 (Waiting Wine) – 2014 Mount Mary Chardonnay Lively hay yellow colour, still quite bright although it does look a little older in the glass, that is you can tell it has some age on it. Re: Red wine from the fridge
One of my evening summer reds is a simple beaujolais from the fridge. Let it sit out for 15 min then pour. It does warm up in the glass anyway due to the heat, but it's quite fascinating tasting it evolve in the glass as it warms up.

I’ve got a fair bit of Rudi Pichler in the cellar. Glad you enjoyed the wine as I struggle to find folks in Australia who enjoy Austrian Riesling. The age is what confused me a bit. At first I thought it was from Alsace, but the weight and texture wasn't right. I think my first Austrian - would hav...

2002 Rockford BP, very bright colour, lovely savoury spicy nose, bright core of dark fruits, leading to a strong firm finish. Very good bottle with a good cork. Another 5-10 years methinks. 2016 Yalumba Menzies deep black colour, nose of blue black fruits great mouth feel with a delicate finish. Cl...
