Re: Coonawarra notes - 2024
Thanks Sean, the form guide, I like it. The thing with Coonawarra is that most producers are consistent. Largely due to the small family operations having been in the district between 40 and 100 years, most second/third generation now, Equally many winemakers who have had long careers in the region,...

Re: Coonawarra notes - 2024
A scaled down version of the musings this year, a few things going on, but was great to get away for another trip to Coonawarra. Vignerons generous with their time and wines poured. Notes from general tastings, dinners and assorted events. Balnaves 2019 Blend in a good spot, will go longer if a big ...

Another sixer of the 2021 Maxwell Ellen St Shiraz...sub $20 now through an etailer. Had a bottle last week...very good drinking. Lovely full bodied MV Shiraz.

Re: Coonawarra musings
Hi CK, thanks so much for the report and happy to provide the tips...feel reasonably well versed to offer the must do's and all sorts. May I please ask you a favour and of course if you don't mind, would you amend the title of your post to include 2024. I have had some significant personal issues of...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Another 1998 Wynns Red Stripe. One of the vintages of the century. 1 mm stained cork, low neck ullage, dark purple in the glass. Blueberry nose, lovely bright palate, still has primary notes, solid core right though to firming tannins and the faintest lick of acid. A real surprise ànd for $9 what's ...

Re: Brisbane Offline 25 Oct 2024 - e'cco bistro
I agree, have a lone 86 and 4-6 of each vintage from 1990. All stored well, but the vagaries of old bottles, unreliable corks might mean many are duds. I think I will start with a 1990-99 vertical and go from there. A 99 that i had mid year was quite good. Always had the romantic idea of looking at ...

Re: Brisbane Offline 25 Oct 2024 - e'cco bistro
2006 was the last SVS release I believe.
I'll take my chances with the 96s and give them a couple more years...I purchased them personally from Robert...so if the wines are shot, I'll let the winery know.

Re: Brisbane Offline 25 Oct 2024 - e'cco bistro
I’d be discerning about SVS - keep or sell! Offered my brother in law $1000 cash for his three pack of SVS wines from 96. Perfectly stored ( by me ) but alas no sale! Tempting indeed...but will keep my 1996 three pack and open in 2026 and perhaps the mag of BP of the same vintage. Should be a good ...

Re: Brisbane Offline 25 Oct 2024 - e'cco bistro
lols, poor old Blues. Keep getting in A-graders and going nowhere. Plain dumb to trade Kennedy out, the one type of player they lack in numbers are serious hard nuts. Poor old Paddy will find it even harder next year, he's carried that team solo for the last decade. Bang on Felix, along with Kenned...

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer
I'd have to disagree with TWF. I tried the BP over the weekend and thought it was a very good shiraz. For my tastes, it was very elegant and not your full-on Barossa thumper. I would be more 93-94. I would agree with you and other punters and not critics, who are jaded from tasting many similar win...

Is it a chateau yaldara liqueur muscat. Looks also like the old Kaiser Stuhl Kirsch Cherry Brandy that my parents used to drink in the 70s.

Re: Is $500 a bottle of Penfolds Grange justified the price?
No...to the question. I have about half a dozen bottles from the 1986 and 90 vintages, some have been to the red wine clinic, all supposedly in good nick. Unicorns, might drink them one day. But 2 dozen bottles of Wynns 2021 BL in exchange for a bottle of Grange (your quoted price of $500), 6 bottle...

Leconfield 2021 Front Twenty Cabernet, another excellent example of the vintage. Black blue fruits, long palate with a bright core finishing with fine tannins. Very impressive.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Had a 1997 Wynns Red Stripe. Last glass tonight, drinking beautifully. Moved onto a 1990 Wynns Oven Valley. Just superb, so much going on, almost like an Italian red, delicate but retaining substance. Cork did the job, savoury spicy notes, lovely palate, twinge of sweetness. So so good, 6 left. A $4...

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer
I have been seduced by BP for many a year now, but in the last 15 years or so in good vintages, 2008/10/12/16/18/19 have purchased a sixer of the the R&S, RR and a few Moppa and or DCG. I am looking forward to the horizontals in time.

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer
Scotty V...no. Didn't actually know that a savvy blanc was made...at 38 years of age, vinegar or something that would be almost fortified by now. I still have a couple bottles of the 1996 RD Chardonnay Pinot sparkling and a couple of 86 BPs. I will make my way to the CD in the coming weeks. Cheers C...

1998 Wynns red stripe, cork held up well, quite remarkable really, very little browning, plenty of fruit, full flavoured, firm finish. For $9...bargain!! 2019 Yalumba sanctum Cabernet, in a very good spot, still quite primary should develop well. 2016 Maxwell Ellen Street Shiraz, good but not great,...

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer
Rag arrived today, seems the Rockford crew are pretty pleased with the 2021 vintage. Prices same as last year (and think they needed to be) , largely due to bumper crop, so will make plenty of cashola. Interestingly the absolute gentleman of the Aus wine industry takes a different perspective. Noon...

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer
I would add Eperosa and Stonegarten to that list. This will be my 37 year on the Rockford train. Of all wineries, you'd think they would make a decent BP and a few others in the range from the 2021 vintage. I'll get a few and the lad is interested in taking over the mailer. I know there's a few punt...

Yes MJS is correct. But expect the Lindies trio to be on regular rotation, since 2021 will be the last vintage.

Re: September purchases
Yes I suspect Ed, like a lot of labels coming out from the Barossa, that there will be plenty of fine wines made. The 2022 Eisenstone's should be right up there, I just think by the time you look at the 11 or so wines and get a bottle or 2 of each then sheesh   . Not being Rockefeller,...

Re: September purchases
I took a punt on 2021 Eisenstone and purchased approximately 2 dozen across the estate and single vineyard wines. I am not sure I am going to purchase any of the 2022s, and fingers crossed 2021 may take the points in the long term. I am sure they are excellent wines..but yes need to continually stop...
