Mount Mary Members Table Mailer

The Mount Mary Member's Table mailer arrived in the inbox yesterday.

Who else here is on the Members Table, and what have you purchased, or will purchase?

I took my full allocation - 2 x Quintet, 2 x Pinot Noir, and 2 x Chardonnay.

Sat this one out due to having too many wines in the collection. Still a fan of Callum's wines, and will purchase again next year.

Re: TN: Wynns Coonawarra 'Black Label' Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Thanks for the note Allan, think I went long on this vintage. Should be exemplary drinking now and in the next 10-15 years. Hooray for screwcaps. As an aside there will be some punters on here who will be over the moon, and some who will be bloody annoyed (me), but the upcoming release of 2022 John...

I had an online chat with Sue Hodder (Wynns Chief Winemaker), and should have asked her why they changed the name.

Australian Pinot Noir ages far better than most people give it credit. I have had plenty at 10-15 years that were very good. I have even had a few from the 1990's.

Interesting as the wine received high scores from Wine Front and Halliday Wine Companion. I wonder if the wine required a longer decant, or just needs time to come around.

Re: Giaconda Chardonnay Alternatives

Singlefile is a producer I don’t see mentioned much here but do some quality Chardonnay (imo) and have a good range across the price spectrum. Adelaide Hills have a number of producers who are doing good work too. My knowledge is very much restricted to the Aus stuff. Cheers Ed Agree on both observ...

Re: Giaconda Chardonnay Alternatives

I usually take a bottle of Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay or Tyrrell's Vat 47 for special occasion that suit with white wines. I also missed the Giaconda release and keen to try the Beechworth Chardonnay that I haven't tried before. May I know how can I be included in the mail list of Sorrenb...

Giaconda Chardonnay Alternatives

With all the madness around the Giaconda 2023 Chardonnay release, I am interested in Australian and Burgundian alternatives at the same price ($160 per bottle) or less. I am so glad Sorrenberg is still very reasonably priced (ex-mailer) and can be obtained on the mailing list. No saying it is as goo...

Pretty happy - just picked up a mixed doz. - 6 & 6 - of the '24 Drumborg and '24 Leo Buring EV for $15 each. Probably one of my best buys in recent times. Love both these wines. Stock up on the '24's you enjoy, because of the hottest year / driest year in history, '25's might show some stress. ...

I have heard the same but not tasted enough to confirm if that is the case. Even if correct I bought a lot of Rieslings from the stellar 2022 vintage, so will only buy the odd one here and there.

I was offered three bottles as part of a friend's allocation, but declined. Not that I don't think the wines aren't good (I know they are very good), but I spent too much money on wine last year. Need to cool the jets a bit this year.

Looks like we are in for another long summer of bushfires unfortunately, and the risk to wildlife, property and lives. The CFA does a great job of course. But often these bushfires are burning in inaccessible areas and go large scale. They will do back burning to limit or impede the spread of bushf...

Grampians Fires

With the large bushfire burning in the Grampians the last 2-3 days, I wonder what affect it may have on the vineyards in the region. Are the grapes large enough for the fires to cause smoke taint?

I hate cork. Too many bad experiences. I must admit wines under stelvin age slower because of less oxygen getting in, but that's OK. That is a small price to pay to have a wine guaranteed it is going to be OK.
