Re: January 29 Drinking

2008 Alkoomi Shiraz First taste: A strong but indescernable bouquet. Quite a strong front palate with dark fruits, with a surprisingly short finish compared to the reviews and tasting notes. No fruit after the mid palate with quite a strong taste of spice on the back end with pepper to finish. As o...

Re: Australia Day Drinking

Mazza 2007 Tempranillo A winery renowned for its spanish varietals. And this particular wine does show elements of why, although it isn't one of their accolade winning wines. Not strong on the nose. Might be slightly floral. A very nice colour though. A dark ruby red which is very similar to tempra...

Re: What is your favourite wine?

Do it for Australia! "I think Australians need to be smart when they go shopping," he said. "Australian ownership of companies, it is important, but not nearly as important as having the product made or grown here." Consumers need to look for the green Australian made logo on abo...

Re: January 21 Drinking

Gonzalez Byass 1847 Solera Olorso Dulce Started to leak a bit, so have to get into it. Pretty nutty on the nose with a palate of caramelised sugar, caramel and other forms of cooked sugar. Quite a long palate with a pleasant bouquet which certainly lingered on the beard. Not sure if it was worth ha...

Re: January 2012 purchases

Jacob's Creek Plonk Pinot Noir - Bought this to cook with. Now reconsidering after testing. Says plums and strawberries and whatever else on the bottle, but I didn't think they refined petrol in these flavours yet. I can feel a headache coming on.

Re: What is your favourite wine?

What is a "vertical"?

Fruity Lexia is also a bit of a legsopener. I would have thought it was more suited to a "horizontal"?

What is the cellaring potential of the old Coolabah?

Which one is most likely to appreciate? The Red or White?

Re: What is your favourite wine?

Yeah I agree. That Coolabah's Fruity Lexia is a damn good wine. Probably my wine of the year. I had it blind against a 1990 Ch Yquem and Coolabahs came up trumps. "Had it blind". That was your problem. You can start on the quality stuff like Fruity Lexia and then move onto the lower quali...

Re: The shameful acts of Constellation & the local Governmen

Ian, is there any local group on the ground running a campaign against these astonishing developments? Whitey is full of the correct amount of rum & vinegar, but surely he's not alone? Can I encourage anyone who deosn't ususally read this links to put 10 minutes aside, and jump in. Anyone that ...

What is your favourite wine?

Mine would have to be Coolabah's Fruity Lexia. It's a quality drop. What is yours? When assessing a wine, I like to analyse more than the horrible taste, and the likely hangover provided by such high quality wine manufacture. I like to think of the circumstances in which such a drink can be drunk. I...

Re: Just how dastardly can Constellation Wines be?

[While we're at it, why not bulldoze Penfolds' Kalimna vineyard to extend the golf course, the Hill of Grace vineyard to make a scenic hotel, pebble mix Ayers Rock and then strip mine Kakadu because we can make a buck out of it? Now now, no need to say things that are only half true. We just put bi...

Been loving the 2006 Mad Fish Gold Turtle Shiraz Viognier recently.

Been pretty good for me, for the price.
