We've been having a look at quite a few an a Friday arvo with the lawyer down the hall who has a Russian bridge. Anyways.. Billy Button's came up pretty well - cooler climate with a lighter touch that some which seems to suit the varietal and retain some of the prettier characters. Jo's doing some f...

Re: The corked wine thread
A bit of kudos for those struggling with perception. At a Penfolds Recorking Clinic about 10 years ago a Penfolds 1990 Bin 90A. It stank and everyone in the room could smell it including N4sir. They tried to replace it with a Grange but finally replaced from their stash a few days later. Sparky loo...

Re: A.Rodda Smiths Vineyard Chardonnay 2015 (Beechworth, Victoria)
I've not tried this producer before, and not all that many Beechworth wines overall. Very pale for a chardonnay (I acknowledge it's a very young wine). Intense grapefruit nose, with underlying mealy, cashew aromas. There's a couple more fruit options (soft peach, nectarine) almost totally hidden un...

Ruckus Estate in Wrattonbully are pretty focused on Merlot, newer clones in particular.
I haven't had any of their wines as yet but the reviews look promising.

From what I've seen so far, there's some 2017 Tassie pinot that might give it a good nudge.
So what's the definition of legendary anyway?

I've just come back from a couple of days around the Grampians and there are a couple more I'd add to the list if you've got a couple of days in the area (which I'd highly recommend). Ararat is a great little town and if you get sick of wineries, there are haunted asylums, great nature trails and pa...

Re: Aus election 2016 - what to drink
Continuing my wine drinking homework, I cracked a 15 Santolin Heathcote Nero D'Avola which worked pretty well with the couch pizza in front of the telly. By no means a heavy weight, but far more attractive than what I was seeing in front of me on the box. Danced as lightly on the palate as the ABC's...

Re: Likely heat damage to wine in cellar? (Adelaide heatwave
An episode of Columbo many years ago suggested that for wine to "go off" it needed to reached a temp of 42 degrees centigrade for 20 minutes (that is the wine temp inside the bottle). I'm not sure whether that is accurate (no doubt there are a few wine scientists on the forum who could el...

Nah, no comparison... Brandivino was for getting pissed. Black Tower was for sophisticated types and hot dates.

Then if you don't get a response I'd be checking the details of Consumer Law and reminding them. Possibly also via twitter where they can't moderate your posts.

This notion that you can flog off all the physical assets because the value is in the brand name must be some fashionable dogma being flogged at marketing school. There may be some wine brands where this has worked, but there's a long list - Tollana, Seaview , Leasingham, Lindemans, Rouge Homme - p...

These ones always make me wince a bit.. Interestingly enough it was a white wine that tripled my spend threshold from about $50 to $150 in one mouthful. Unfortunately it only keeps going up from there..
