Calling all pinotphiles

Pinotphiles in the Adelaide area are invited to a tasting this Saturday, November 28, at Marble Hill ruins that will include wines from Pinot-oriented producers: Ashton Hills (tastings by Stephen George), Lucy Margaux Vineyards (tastings by Anton Van Klopper), Ngeringa (tastings by Janet and Erinn K...

Seeking TNs: Providence Vineyard, "Miguet" Pinot N

If you have tried the Providence Vineyard "Miguet" Pinot Noir 2006 from Tasmania, I would like to hear what you thought of it and get your TNs. It is a wine that has been highly recommended and I would like a diversity of opinions. Thanks!

a tough one

yep, i'm not sure what to expect myself - the impact may be more clear in Dan Murphy's stores where unusual/hard-to-find batches may start appearing (on the assumption that Langton's brings to Dan's the opportunity to buy wine from private collectors). This may be a good thing. I will also be intere...

Langton's take over by Dan's

Has anyone seen any impact on the way Langton's performs since it was taken over by Dan Murphy's?

and pinot retailers?

Are there any excellent wine stores you know of that take some kind of pride in their range of Pinots, Burgundies, etc? Again, I would love to add their details to my links page.

Pinotphile pages

Do you have any links you think I should add to my "Pinot Noir Links" page : http://www.whissonlake.com/pinot-noir-links? I'm looking for any websites that will provide Pinotphiles with interesting information, news, TNs, forthcoming events, new releases, etc.

not a cue for your rant.

So, Tom, what's your job? Are you an assistant to Jefford? You should know, seem to know, Australian wines. Andrew seems a bit hung-up on ph levels - if that's all it takes to be a respected critic perhaps I should get some graduated litmus paper - seriously! Does he really expect to be inundated b...

Very important: The New Australia

UK wine journalist Andrew Jefford is currently in Australia for 12 months and he complains that he is not receiving enough samples of regionally specific or stylistically interesting wines from Australian producers. Among many other major achievements, Andrew is the author of "The New France&qu...

2 ARTICLES YOU THOUGHT YOU'D NEVER READ

Both these articles are highly recommended and free to view at the Financial Times website. Jancis Robinson on; the virtues of Australian Pinot Noir; the current woes of Australian wine. For obvious reasons I can't publish links here but just go to the FT website > weekend columnists > Jancis Robins...

acid sensitivity

I worked in Bordeaux last year and the weather was a washout. As a result (the reasons were more complicated than its worth going into here), we ended up being obliged to pick our Sauvignon B and Semillon with excruciatingly high levels of acidity. Various tricks were pulled to corect the problem - ...

Recruiting a Pinot Noir reviewer.

I work at the small but extraordinary Whisson Lake vineyard in the Adelaide Hills where we have been single-mindedly focused on growing Pinot Noir for 25 years. We are looking to make our website a social hub for the global Pinot Noir community and recently began a "Global Pinot Noir News"...

Hi Carl! Thanks for replying. What I was trying to elicit here was not a defense of the De Bortoli winemakers - who do not need defending and who I still insist I have much respect for - but a debate on what makes wine worthwhile and important as a drink that reflects a particular place/appellation....

DB from down under to up over

I certainly agree that any relevant winemaking experience is potentially a good learning experience. But how relevant is the making of Pinot Noir in Burgundy to the making of Pinot Noir in the Yarra (or anywhere else in Australia)? I argue that Pinot Noir in Burgundy really has nothing in common wit...

what should you get for $100+ per bottle?

I thought the latest release of Block 5 was an extremely attractive and enjoyable wine. But I did wonder whether, for this price, should you be getting a wine that has a more vineyard-specific personality? While a very good wine, it wasn't wildly different from the other big name Pinots from Otago. ...

Making someone else's wine

One thing I find a bit strange about the De Bortoli project in Gevrey C. is that they are effectively just making someone else's wine. In this era of global business any winemaker (you don't even have to be a recognised winemaker) can make any wine, anywhere in the world. So if they wanted to, someo...

Hi Michael! If you go to the "our Pinot Noir" page of the Whisson Lake website, the review of their 2007 makes it sound exactly what you are looking for. tom
