Oz wines in London

Anders The two retailers I mentioned have by far the best listings of Australian Wines in the UK - Noel Young Wines actually got the IWC gong for best Australian list this year - perhaps your mate might want to check out their websites - I know Noel certainly delivers to London for telephone orders....

Oz wine in London

Anders

I can recommend two good places for Australian wine - either Philglas + Swiggot in Battersea and Richmond - very good selection of boutique Aussies. Alternately, jump on a train up to Cambridge and visit Noel Young Wines - super selection.

While sherry was named after the town of Jerez, was it named by the English or Spanish? I understand that terms like Fino and Oloroso are being phased out, but why? They're not regional names. Re: Why do australian wines perform so well at the London sh

Just put this article up on the winefront monthly site: see m if you're interested. Gist is that australian wines continue to shine at the london international wine shows - as they do most years. Bearing in mind that the french don't enter their top wines, the aussie wines still do seem to perform ...

Dead Arm 2001

Anders Here's my impressions - deep purple verging on black in colour, smoky oak, tar, star anise and licorice on the nose, very tight and taut palate reflecting the nose, also showing highly extracted black fruits, gravelly tannins. Very young wine that needs time. Wears its 15% alcohol with ease. ...

Personally I tend to find that Australian rieslings have more in common with fuller bodied Austrian rieslings than lighter bodied German styles which have varying amounts of residual sugar. Many of the Austrians tend to show a bit more spice and richness in their youth, but approach similar alcohol ...

Zind-Humbrecht wines

G'day I tasted a few of ZH wines yesterday, including the 2001 Zind (multi-varietal blend including Chardonnay), 1995 Riesling Clos Hauserer and 2000 Gewurtztraminer. One thing all these wines have in common is their richness. I thought the Zind was quite good, though the alcohol shows just a touch....

Re: Are there many Froggy drinkers out there ?

And if there are, which do you prefer ? Burgundy, Bordeaux or (heaven forbid) both ? Tim It's a bit hard to compare given the different grape varieties produced in the respective regions. I like the wines produced from most of France's fine wine regions (especially the Rhone and Languedoc) but don'...

From my other thread.. It got me wondering, since Oliver isn't much of a guide to Froggy vino and, as our illustrious leader mentioned, it is too expensive to experiment, AND the bloody cellar doors are too far away... how do you select which French wine you will buy ? Robert Parker ? If you don't ...

In my humble opinion, the 99 vintage could well turn out to be one of, potentially THE greatest BP produced to date. For mine, it has a structure of tannins, acidity and fruit that beats the likes of the 1996 and 1998 and lots of fruit, but rather than being a bruiser, has power married with eleganc...
