I am going to WA later in the year too, and I recently posted pretty much the same question. Check out http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6631 to see the replies I got.

Regions in the Murray darling basin may have fared well this year, but if their irrigation is cut they will be in trouble. Sure, you can grow vines dryland, but the soil type needs to be right (good water holding capacity), and the vines need to adapt to those conditions. Vineyards which have been i...

Western Australia - Cellar door suggestions
I am planning to visit WA later in the year (never been there before, so I'm pretty excited!). I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for wineries to visit. I'd rather steer clear of the big touristy ones (unless they have exceptional wine of course!), and the quality of the wine means m...

I definitely think both smoking and a high sugar diet affect people's tastes in wine. I have never smoked, but I have had ex smokers tell me that their tastes have changed after they quit - mostly in the tannin / hardness spectrum. I have a few friends who guzzle down the soft drink, and they cannot...

I have no problem with wineries charging a small ($5) refundable fee on their premium range, as long as it is purely to avoid free loaders and not a money making exercise. That is, the fee is refundable on any purchase. Charging for everything is over the top, and I would be inclined to walk out, as...
