Great thread: nicely thought out analysis and an important topic, given that it now seems that Parker and WS influence most wine buyers worldwide. I respect many qualities in Robert Parker, but I have been observing a sad evolution in his views: he seems to think more and more that only what he know...

Sure, although I should point out that our website is mostly written in French. We aimed to have a fully bilingual website, but the amount of work and other commitments have proved overwhelming! The Wine Addict Here are a couple of articles that may be of interest, on Peter Lehmann, written in Engli...

Great notes on a nice line-up of unusual wines. Regarding the Hill of Grace 1977, would you say: a) Poor vintage so no surprise b) poor bottle, should do better c) did not expect such an old HoG to be interesting anyway I have no clue as to the quality of 1977 in Australia (though you seem to have l...

Living in Canada, I have never seen this wine. Out of curiosity, do they really call it Vintage Port? I thought there now were international laws preventing such confusions (Port is made in Portugal, period.)

I love the Muscat from this producer. 8)

It seems strange, though, that only one judge would be sensitive to brett while the others describe a very classic Connawarra Cabernet... I also note that the jury disagrees on the wine-food match! Tough life to be judge in a wine show...

Thanks for the read. Although it was quite long (too long, as usual on Squires' board) I got much out of it: 1) No one there wishes to discuss the eventuality that Robert Parker may may a scoring mistake. This gives a sense at how many people blindly follow the Maryland guru... Not even Parker answe...

As mentioned by many previously, in oenoogical terms one cannot speak of "fortified" wines if there is no addition of alcohol not coming from fermentation. Examples of very high alcohol wines are many among in the DOCG Amarone in Italy, among them Giuseppe Quintarelli sometimes manages to ...

I know... For me and some very dedicated tasters, this is borderline price for sharing a bottle. However I foundly remember a bottle of 1998 we drank August 2004... Never had an Australian wine with such a delicate and so incredibly perfumed palate.

Hello Gianna, Chateau Potensac is a solid and very reliable Medoc wine. It has recently been designated Crus Bourgeois Exceptionel in Bordeaux. Used to be a bit austere in its youth, taking 5-10 years to fully reveal itself. We had the 1985 about 2 years ago and it was a splendor. I would recommend ...

Henschke Hill of Grace 1999

American critics' views diverge on this wine:

Wine Spectator 82
Wine Advocate 98

Anyone here has had experiences going one way or the other? Or other tasting reports?

Many thanks

I definitely agree with your assessment: Stonewell 1998 is rather structured, perhaps a bit backward at this stage. Should be excellent in 3-5 years. At this stage, I prefer the 1999 which has been really developing nicely.

Syrah vs Shiraz

From outside, there are many differences bewteen typical Rhône Valley syrah and Australian shiraz (I realize this is a bit too general here, but that's the point of my question below). Do you know of regions in Australia, or perhaps producers, who have produced wines with more of a Côte-Rôt...

Thanks for the comments and the link to a previous discussion. I am writing a long article on brett, so if anyone has other examples of wineries concerned with brett infection, thanks for sharing.

Great Forum!

Hello,

Great Forum here. I found this by chance while browsing the Net. I live in Canada (Montreal) and have a wine website of my own.

Question: has there been discussion on the issue of "brettanomyce" in Aussie wine on this Forum?

Many thanks!
