Re: Penfolds releases Kalimna Block 42 wine worth $168,000

I can imagine the sommeliers face at being asked to crack open (literally) the $168k glass ampoule..... I can see the signed disclaimers being bought out....

Brandy storage/corks

Hi all
I was after a little advice - I received a bottle of Hennessy XO for my birthday recently - should this be stored as for a cork stoppered wine? ie laying flat, or is it OK to stand up (I have a cellar temp/humidity controlled with a Fondis cooler)....

Good advice - see another GP, or a dermatologist. Don't let anyone give you steroid cream.... Rozex gel/cream works well, as do a few of the antibiotics around for exacerbations. I am even baffled more. I tried a left over steroid (elocon) redness lessened from day one and itchiness is gone !?!?!? ...

I've always chilled reds (an hour or so in the fridge) before serving in Australia - really a necessity in most parts of the country most of the year I think. Even better just grab from the cooled cellar/fridge! Never been served a warm red at a cellar door though..... plenty of warm reds at restaur...

Cellar door wine temperatures

I've noticed on our last few trips the apparent slackness in wine serving temperatures at some cellar doors.... Recently we tried a young semillon at one of the Hunters icon wineries, must have been approaching 30 degrees C, really made it taste like what I imagine feline urine is like! Not as bad, ...

I think doing anything you enjoy is good for your health (unless other toxicities come into play - like excess alcohol).... I think the J-curve phenomenom - the lower mortality noted with low-moderate alcohol intake is partly due to this, and the fact that strict teetotalers seem to be an uptight bu...

If I had worrying chest pains I'd get a GP to give me a referral to a cardiologist. This is one good reason why you need GPs - so you aren't self referred incorrectly. There are a lot of causes of "worrying" chest pain, and undifferentiated chest pain is generally an emergency department'...

One instance of unusual management by a GP is hardly enough to tarnish us all (Yes, I am a GP) - it is not normal practice to treat uric acid levels in isolation. In fact, measuring uric acid in the absence of renal disease, some myeloproliferative conditions and suspected gout is rarely useful, I f...

Exactly - which is why your GP should assess your kidneys before suggesting you take it for more than a few days at a time. If it didn't work so damn well it would have faded into history long ago! :D

You can use colchicine for prevention of gout, although this use is unusual now - progout is a different drug (drug name allopurinol) which decreases your blood uric acid level by altering the way purines in food are metabolised. Allopurinol is by far the most common gout preventer used now - colchi...
