You can also take the Napa Wine Train and not worry about the drinking driving thing.

Thanks for the link Kris. I got a bit gunshy after reading the info on the 89 so I brought a 99 Moss Wood instead and it showed very well.

Decanting an 89 Mount Mary

Hello all, Going to a blind tasting in a few days and need your help in determining how long I should decant the Mount Mary. The wines are poured back in the bottle and bagged. Do any of you think it might show well without decanting? There are approximately 8 of us so the wine won't sit in the glas...

Hi Michael,

I have tasted the 2003 about six months ago and purchased 5 soon after and expect this wine to shine in another 6 or 7 years. I did detect some acidity but feel it is well proportioned in relation to the rest of the "package".

bacchaebabe, Make sure you bring your ski gear if your are passing through Whistler. Our snow base presently sits at over 320cm and we are skiing knee deep powder on Easter weekend! I will not add any more wineries to visit, as my previous colleagues gave you a sufficient list . Here are a few recom...

[quote]How much is the Amon Ra? Here in Canada we sell it for $100 Canadian. I had it in a tasting called "little brother big brother" against the Bishop and I preferred the Bishop right now. (only $50.00) Thanks - Rick [quote] Rick, The Amon Ra was available here (British Columbia) for ab...

I'm with Davo on this one. These types of wine fair particularly well in North America where there is a definite "penchant" for the sweet side. I prefer a bit less "over the top" types. Then again, it's a matter of preference.

Adam is right: the more you drink, the less the "T"comes out... Just a bit more info, because I believe this topic is so worthy of more discussion... The little thingies above the letter e (I know, I'm getting too technical) have nothing to do wether you pronounce the T or not. Their purpose is to s...

You guys!!! I have to admit being impressed about a bunch of Aussies debating on how to pronounce french for 22 posts. About the Dutch origin. Claude Moet was living in France in the 1700s so let's forget about how the Dutch pronounciation should be. After all, how would you feel if some German guy ...

Jenise,

The 2001 Yalumba Tricentenary Vines was a very pleasant surprise for me. Consider giving it a shot, especialy if you are concerned about overipe and jammy features. It's just a hop and a skip accross the border @ $43.00cdn.

Raisin Matur-"ish" Beaucastel versus HofG. Where do they rate in the complexity stakes? Hi Jamie, I think both wines rate highly. The Beaucastel is definitely more harmonious at this stage, with a full body but very clean backbone of tannin and exceptional lenght. I think it's entering it's drinkin...

Pleasant surprises -Mamre Brook 2002. Great QPR even from our price inflated Liquor Board. -Chateau La Fleur Chantecaille 1998, St-Emilion. If you can get your hand on anything from the Right Bank (Pomerol/St-Emilion) from the 1998 vintage, it is well worth it. Disapointment: Xanadu Merlot (2001?). ...

Hi Jenise, My message is too late for your tasting but if you have to repeat the Australian theme it may be worth your while travelling North of the Border and hit a few Vancouver stores. The Vasse Felix 2001 vintage has been around for 3 months already and it is vastly superior to the 2000 vintage....

Hi Mishy,

I can't believe I am sending a note all the way to Oz for you to read when I live 120km away from you! I just found some 98 Stonewell at the Park Royal Liquor store in very limited quantity. You may want to have apeak at it if you like Peter Lehman's high end wines.

Tasted 4 this week. -2000 Barossa Valley Estates, Ebenezer Shiraz. By far the weakest vintage I have ever tasted from this producer. Dark berries and oak with a very short finish. -2001 Vasse Felix. Hi Mishy, I must confess to having been a medal victim. Amongst the most "decorated" in Vancouver's shops lies some Wyndham Reserve. Avoid that one at all cost. D'Arenberg wines also generaly show up with many metallic stickers but are generally worthy of purchasing. Having said that, your best reso...
