Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2007

Very tight on the nose, opened up with bottle warmth, big creamy mouthful but tight citrus fruits coming through. Great acid backbone that will make the wine more enjoyable in 1 to 2 years to come. I find this more open and fruit forward than the Voyager estate. Still prefer the Voyager for its over...

I had a 1988 Peter Lemon Shiraz the other night and thought it would be past its peek as recommended 5 years cellaring on back of bottle. It was a cracker, a lot of the fruit had faded by great secondary flavors of cedar, bark and cinnamon spice just shows you how sometimes old wines can surprise yo...

Yeah Partagas it was 2 hours on and I had some friend over for dinner, it started to worry me that this wasn't a great bottle as I wasn't really getting anything on the nose or the palate around this time. Very happy I decanted it early as by the time we drank it, it had finally come around. Has any...

Seppelts st peters 2004

A bit closed and heavy on opening, but started to sing after 5 hours of air. On the nose, tar, stalky, brambly dark fruits. Structure was smooth, savory and elegant and the palate soared. Still needs another 4 years to really open up. But a cool climate bomb nonetheless. Has anyone else dared to ope...

I have also really enjoyed this wine. Got on to it with the 2004 found it very velvety with smooth subtle tannins, a lot of my friend that are not big in to wine have loved it so I never hesitate recommending this one. I haven't tried that 2006 but you have just inspired me to get a bottle.

2004 Saltram Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon

Do you think it was a dodge bottle John? Have you had this experience with any other 2004 Saltram Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon, doesn't sounds good for ageing?

2005 Norton Malbec from Bodega Agentina

Needed something to go with my braised ox tail gnocchi and though this would work with its big juicy fruits and firm tannins. Purple in colour with upfront sweet juicy plum. Tannins were a bit all over the place to start with but came together once aired for an hour. Went great with the ox tail but ...

Thanks for the response. I haven't thought too much about the Tas stuff as I have found in the past that they are a bit heavier with darker fruits, more masculine where as I normally go for more feminine (bit like my girls, as you would hope!) interesting about the flat spot with the cellaring, it m...

Best valued Pinots currently on the market?

I am trying to stock up my cellar on some more pinot, so looking for your opinions on the best valued pinot currently in the market. I snapped up a couple of William Crossing 2006 as right to my style and will get better with a few years in bottle. Any others around that $20 to $30 mark :?:

2005 Debortoli Reserve Pinot Noir

Complex nose of savory mulch, great texture, good sweetness balance, nice mix of stalk and bright savory red cherry’s. Spice to finish with good tannin structure which will see it become more savory & stalky in a few years. Not overly funky like the 2005 estate, more velvety, which is wha...

I would seek out Willow Creek, good Chard & Pinot at different levels. I heard Kooyong is opening up a new cellar door/rest should be a great new place to visit on the Mornington strip, wonder if they will put the single vinyard wines up for tastings once opened. :?:

Wickhams Road Macedon Chadonnay 2006

My first post, I feel if Lordson can do it I must be way advanced.("thanx Lordson for making me feel like a wine pro") Light crushed rock on the nose. Nice clean palate of lemon and powdery minerals, some creaminess appeared as it warmed in the glass. No real malo evident just nice gravell...
