Re: Brisbane Offline 25 Oct 2024 - e'cco bistro

I think there was a lot of commentary on the forums the Moorooroo was developing very early. This was in the early 2000’s! I recall the wine being better than that though I can’t be sure. So long ago! The other two should be good though certainly peaking. I had a magnum of Rockford Basket Press 199...

Afew over the last couple of days. 2010 Faiveley Cazetiers : Secondary influences prevail as you would expect of a wine 14 years of age. Long, broad and rich. A powerful palate with the expected red fruits giving way to more earthy influences mixed with a mineral, almost salty finish. Good to great...

Re: October 2024 Purchases

Claymore are producing some excellent wines. I am a fan of the London Calling Cab/Malbec with its medium bodied/mid-weight palate. The Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz is a regular mid-weeker at our house. The 2021 and the new 2022 release are very good wines. Their 2024 rieslings were well received at...

3 x 2005 Kaesler Stonehorse Shiraz…. A little bit jammy, but decent enough at the lowish price point. 2004 Hobbs Shiraz…. Superb fruit and oak integration. Only beef would be that there’s a touch of alcohol heat on the finish. 2001 Parker Terra Rosa First Growth.. not exactly a first growth… bit bor...

It’s the 21 release… of course it’s a buy! If it was 19 or 20 or 23 I’d understand your trepidation. Rockford rarely gets it wrong in the good years.

Grand Final Lunch: 1996 Yalumba Signature Cab/Shiraz - enjoyed with lamb loin chops marinated overnight in a rosemary/mint/honey/red wine marinade, and cooked over a charcoal grill. The 28 year old red was a classic Aussie 'claret', drinking superbly. I did a double take reading your note…. 28 year...

Re: Margaret River vintages

From what I hear, MR is in a different country and over 50 years there may have been a couple of dud vintages. There is never any universal commentary, for example that 1989/92/95 or 2011/17/20 are all very poor vintages as there is, here in SA/Vic/NSW. Does Margret River ever get frosts? It appear...

90A is the best wine I've had but I'm limited mostly to OZ wines The 90A was by far the best drinking wine last weekend at 34 years of age. Pretty sure the 04 B42 and 60A will be even better with time, and they do need a little more time to get into that maximum pleasure mode. After all, they are o...

A case of 24 Grosset PH. Might get some more given what I’m hearing about it Wow $80 these days! I had a few of my old Grosset PH’s early in the year. 02 & 05 I think? They were lovely. Not so sure of the view by some they don’t age. They have a purity at 20 years that may outshine typical Ries...

Great event. It’s far more common these days to see people drink wine very young and drinking mature wine and beyond feels so yesterday. I still have the Petaluma in cork and stelvin so must finish them off. I had a couple of the 02 Riesling’s earlier this year. They were both in really good shape ...

I’ve been to a couple of BP verticals in the last two years. The standouts have tended to be 90,91,98 and 12. Those from the eighties were, in the main, quite tired.

Re: TN: Howard Park Allingham Chardonnay 2017

Thanks Allan, This is a winery that seems to fly under the radar on the east coast. I’ve hosted a few blind Cabernet tastings in recent months, and their cab merlots from the 90s consistently perform extremely well, as do their rieslings with some age. Might be time to look at their chardonnays. Che...

I also noticed that Standish wines are not as popular as before in recent years. Even the auction price of the Lamella dropped quite substantially compared to few years ago. I don't know should I call it over-priced but the quality of Standish is always good. I wonder if it’s the price point (meani...
