Re: Cellar Reduction Plan Gone Wrong.
That's exactly what I did a few years ago when planning an early retirement which starts at the end of next week, diverted a large part of my wine spend to the purchase of some pretty high end woodworking tools and machinery for use in my next life as a furniture maker. The good bit is that it worke...

They priced me out many years ago after having been an annual buyer for about 15 years, will never go back....as others have said is much better value out there.

Re: BYO Australia?
I think allowing BYO and doing it well can actually be a real point of difference for restaurants. Whilst still a city dweller would regularly frequent La Luna in Carlton for that very reason. They at the time charged around $25.00 a bottle corkage and treated the wines almost as their own including...

I was at around 1200 bottles 10 odd years ago, went through a very expensive divorce, got out of the corporate rat race, moved to the country and started my own little consulting business and since all that happened have had to dumb down down my lifestyle to suit my financial circumstances. Spend wa...

I'm not too fussed although do cringe when I overhear people asking for a "Cheeky Chardonnay"....what does that mean ?, maybe comes with a bit of tude....(attitude according to my kids).

So I'm still a keen buyer. Coming out the other side of this mess I'll either dedicate a couple of pay checks to buying a heap of fine wine or I'll proceed to sell my cellar if forced to early retirement. Comfortable with both- as life will have gone in a new direction.[/quote] Nothing wrong with a ...

Yes I have, started fading around 8 years ago partly due to an expensive separation which limited my ability to go large and mostly due to the fact that around the same time I moved from central Melbourne to central Victoria on some acreage and have found a range of other hobbies and interests to fi...

Re: What is the most egregious wine pricing you have seen?
Really...math may be not my strong point however am fairly certain that there would be a fair amount of profit coming out of the $1,000,000.00 they will get assuming they actually sell them all at that price. Find it hard to see that production costs would be that much more than any other of their &...

Was around 1500 but now half that and looking to reduce further, realised I had something like $60 K sitting there and as am paying off two mortgages thought it better to drink it own over a number of years and keep things a bit more modest.

they are the cheapest wines to make , picked, fermented, put into stainless, filtered, bottled all in the space of a couple of months and on the shelves straight after that.

I dunno..I think it is smart of them...Just a way to add another label with hopefully a similar formula that sells into the Chinese market... I thought RRP was $80, and I've seen it cheaper. I've not seen it at $100. Yep, was around $70.00 pb by the six pack at majors and can still get for around that at the cellar door in a six pack. Typical office compactus units are extremely heavy and most office buildings have zones with extra reinforcing to accommodate the increased loads.
Also need a very level stable surface to allow the units to move easily, certainly not impossible however is really important to install properly.

Someone (me ) dropped a cigarette butt into a newly opened bottle of 1996 Bin 389 a few years ago just prior to decanting, meant to put it out into the empty bottle beside it...decanted it anyway and wasn't too bad although a tasting note would have noted a hint of ash and tobacco ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
