I've seen examples of this phenomenon previously, but none so clear as a bottle of LE Chard one night. Opened, corked - TCA. Inserted 'clean' cork from another bottle into the LE and left overnight. Next evening the LE had lost all signs of TCA. It happened like that - well, as best my memory recall...

While the actual money that is paid to Winestate may go to the magazine and the tasters not see anything it is appearance of money having changed hands to have a wine reviewed that is the problem. It renders the independence of both the magazine and the winery suspect and taints the tasting panel (...

I lean more to the registration side and I don't really care if there are many nom de plumes among them. I don't mind the 'guest' contributions really, but there is often a lack of tolerance to these guests when they can easily be ignored, and then it turns into an ugly brawl - very often. Not attra...

Interesting reading the papers today about the surge in pinot sales and the associated drop in merlot sales...... popular culture still rules... ..... loved reading those quotes from major merlot producers trying to talk it up again. ....... and an expensive dinner is amusingly portrayed(for those i...

Two different arguments here - post-bottling shock and travel shock. What I class as bottle shock is really immediate post-bottling changes that Colin has already covered. It is not crap, although different circumstances can provide different impacts, and some not at all. The first sem sav (screwcap...

Thanks Kris, friends have just returned - I was researching for them. Not sure exactly where they ended up but they had an excellent trip. Raved about the happy, friendly service everywhere they went. I used to spend a bit of time there for work and remember the 'comfortable style' that is Sth NZ. M...

NZ South Isle - Restaurants / Wine Bars request
Guys, any current recommendations for restaurants and wine bars in Christchurch, Queenstown and around Marlborough much appreciated.
Not five star silver service - simply great food, wine and ambience.
Thanks in advance.
cheers, brad

Jacinta, as coincidence would have it, I used to run the winery and I'm the one who summarised the reviews on the site at the time. Yes, Campbell does make long comments in his notes and it's often not practical to quote word-for-word in mail-outs or websites. I haven't seen your advertising materia...

1999's were pretty smart but if you need the power I'd go to 2001's. Mind you, another beauty from 1999 not mentioned was Amberley, 'though I don't know how it's travelling now. For 2001 power you could try the Alexandra Bridge 101 . Needs a bit of air to blow off the slight reductiveness but a ball...
