Re: Weekly Drinking Thread as at 24/03/13

Two good ones this weekend. 2010 Eldridge pinot noir - savoury, soft, lengthy palate, dark cherry rather than strawberry, from the excellent 2010 pinot vintage on the Mornington Peninsula. 2009 Ruggabellus Efferus (85% mataro), modern Barossa, elegant, exciting, funky, soft tannins, not jammy or por...

Re: Wendouree

2001 Wendouree Cab Malbec, brooding power rather than collosus. Complex nose, hint of mint. Firm palate, moderate length, whack of tannin. Good for several years yet.

TN: 2007 Kooyong Viognier

Cellar door only. Good wine, restrained, apricot notes but not overdone. Old oak adds complexity. Fresh, crisp finish adds ageing potential. 90 points.

The 2002 is at it's peak now, but will hold for a bit. According to CM the 2004 is of high quality and long-lived, drinking window 2010-2016.

Savaterre 2002 Pinot Noir

This is good. Maturing nose of cherries and earth, long drying but floral palate, but with some soft tannin structure. Lovely, but will hold for a few years yet.

best aged wines of late

Avoid 1996 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec. Not much stuffing, with that annoying Clare mintiness. Totally dominates the palate. Virtually undrinkable.

What is the difference between a red stripe across the order form and Tony Brady's initials in black ink. Which is higher on the pecking order.

2002 Torbreck Struie

Opened this wine tonight with great anticipation. Alas, overtly and grossly "bretty". Undrinkable, down the gurgler it went. Then tried the 2003. Glory be, excellent, intense, complex shiraz - everything the 2002 wasn't. Any similar experiences?
