Re: NWR: Brisbane Floods

Glad to hear everyone is safe. We escaped the worst of the rain on the Gold Coast but watching events unfold has been horrendous.

If anyone needs a hand cleaning up give me a shout. I'm quite handy with a shovel!

Take care of yourselves, Ed

Re: Brisbane Offline December 2010

Thanks Gerry, Looking forward to it.

As Craig can't make it, do you want me to bring a VP to finish things off... I think I have some 1980's Para tucked away.

Or are we too late to order glassware from the restaurant?

Cheers, Ed

Re: Brisbane Offline December 2010

I have been looking at this offline with envious eyes for the past few weeks. If there is a spare place I would love to come along. I don't have anything 'Exceptional' in the cellar, but have a few in the lower tiers e.g. Mt Pleasant Lovedale (various vintages) Penfolds RWT (2006) Seppelt St. Peters...

Organising a wine cellar

I will soon be moving my wine collection from the cupboards in my house into a purpose built cellar. Has anyone got any thoughts on the best way to organise a cellar? Maybe by producer, variety, region, vintage or a combination of these? Or is it easier to just allocate shelf numbers and use the com...

Re: 2007 Symphony Hill Shiraz (Granite Belt QLD)

Pyramids Road is another one to look out for. The straight Mourvedre would be my pick but the Cabernet is close on it's heels.

The main problem is that I genuinely enjoy it. I love wine, I love beer and I love cocktails and I love the socialising that goes with it. If I was told I couldn't drink anymore due to health reasons, I wonder how I could possibly actually do it. That's my problem too. I just love wine. I could kic...

Hey Jaames. I guess this all depends on what you enjoy... Unfortunately , you have a whole lot of tasting to do before you find what you really like! A few to get started... Wynns Cabernet (Coonawarra) Teusner Riebke Shiraz (Barossa) Mount Pleasant Philip Shiraz (Hunter) Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir ...

Friday night I started to go through a box of oddities that I found in the cellar... Rosemount Semillon 2003 Yellow, oxidised, down the drain. Angoves Nine Vines Shiraz Grenache Rose 2007. Very light and simple. High acidity masked the fruit. Put back in the fridge to maybe try with food. Basedow Ed...

I once read a tasting note that included aromas of slate, flint, gravel and stone in the same wine. Maybe a geologist with an acute sense of smell?!

Question...

Are there any wordsmiths out there able to assist in the pronunciation of Brettanomyces?

Assuming no silent letters I am taking a guess at brett-anom-i-seez, although I could be way off the mark!!

Maglieri Shiraz 1998
This won a gold medal back in the day and I can see why. Distinctive aged red colouration. Leather and fruit cake on the nose. Smooth on the palate. Drinking perfectly now and I doubt will get any better.

Evening all... long time lurker, first time poster. Please be gentle I've been getting into a bit of fizz this week. D'Arenberg Peppermint Paddock. This has been on my to try list for a couple of years so I took the plunge and bought a bottle the other day. The colour was quite something... a deep, ...
