Well done everyone. Great to see some new faces, some from Perth and some fly-ins from the east. Apprarently they thought we would all be old and grey haired, but they actually found a young crowd of enthusiastic wine buffs! The 96 Petaluma was my favourite, but the 91 Hermitage was excellent, as we...

The Cullen 2005 was my standout. Stunning mouthfeel for such a young wine, yet the potential is obvious. All of the top end reds and whites were good though. On the cheaper end, the Planataganet CS 2004 was a real surprise. Would be good to cellar some of these.

I've not had much experience with french wines, but my favourite Aussie experiences are not necessarily the 'best wines', but the ones which I recall most vividly as well. Penfolds Bin 90A 1990 - had last year. Leo Buring Leonnay (not sure which area) 1991 - had recently Henschke Mt Edelstone 1992 -...

If you say what city you are from, maybe we can suggest an auction house. And how has it been well stored?

Hey Smitty I have only ever tried one of their wines, but I live near Margaret River, have a rough idea of others from the area. I liked the 02 Le Bas Chardonnay Tried this year. Was still going good. I am guessing that the vines are just a but young at the moment. Lacked a bit of fruit depth/length...

PERTH OFFLINE NOTES

Heck what a great night. Lots of great wines and bit of interstate rivalry. Us v them. Real men's wines v those sissy wines from 'that other' side of the country. Who would come out supreme??? Davo led off with a Peel Estate sparkling shiraz . Liked by everyone except Ric I think. WA then furthered ...

I agree. If the owner gets on-side, we should be on a winner here. I also agree on his suggestion that next time we need a square table. Time and time again with the wine club I regularly visit I have seen that a square table works best for a wine dinner.

Perth Offline Notes

What a night!!! Absolute indulgence of the best kind. Food was generous and very enjoyable. $40 per head incl corkage was even better. More money for wine. 9 people attending. All pissheads. Given we had 13 bottles for 9 people, we thought it wise to drink the older wines first before our judgement ...

Campbell I second Mark's comment. I am in residential apartment property development. When we tell purchasers that their property is going to be ready at X date, and its not ready then through no fault of our own, people get really shitty. Now we always say along the lines of: 'we cant say exactly b...

Elvis I am not sure about 99 for FR. I do know however that 2000 was a very tough vintage throughout the South-West. I know the 99 Houghton Gladstone Frankland cabernet and shiraz wines were both well reviewed from the 99 vintage. So I think it must have been a good vintage. Keep an eye out for 2001...

Elvis Just for your interest, and assuming your not an expatriate Aussie, Frankland River is probably one of the most remote wineries in the world. Perth is the closest city and which I believe is the most isolated provincial city in the world (2000 kms from the nearest other provisional city). Fran...

Duck and Pinot,........and lots of each for the 5 of us. No specific notes on the ducks consumed, though my personal favourite of the night was the minced duck with bamboo shoot and lettuce leaf. Mmmm. Wine notes in order of serving: Barossa Valley Estate E&E sparkling shiraz 1994 - well liked (...

VC Tasting in Perth

The regular mamoth tasting held yesterday was just fantastic with lots of very good wines. Just tried the reds because of so many wines. If only these reps appreciated how much good reds improve with some early decanting, they would probably do it. My highlights were: Favourite of the tasting - Houg...
