It's important to shake the bottle as you don't want to lose the texture and flavour that the sediment gives to the wine. I go to my cellar once a month to shake the bottles so that the sediment doesn't stick too hard to the side of the bottles. Cheers.........Mahmoud. Finally remembered my passwor...

Brian As you are probably aware, I dislike high alcohol when it is poorly done (ie. sticks out of the wine). Unfortunately a lot of wines over 14% fall into this category for me, including the 2002 Calliope (we will agree to disagree on that one). The point of the post is that I wonder how Andrew ac...

A couple of points you make Andrew that I would take issue with. Smithy wrote: Parker thinks European style reds in Australia recieve undue acclaim from show judges etc. I'd say likewise, which is partly due to our show system. The Chairman of Judges determines the style in his instructions to the p...

Jeff What I would not do, however, is draw wider conclusions on what people acrtually think was the wine of the year. You agree? I don't really have a great interest one way or the other - its of passing interest only to me as I have enough experience by now to make up my own mind as to what the bes...

Colin This forum is predominately enamoured with big flavoured wines - you won't see many Mt Mary, Wantirna Estate or Yeringberg fans here. You also won't see a lot of Pinot reviews for the same reasons. You will see plenty of reviews of full flavoured Shiraz however (and it can be a very good buyin...

Agree totally with Graeme and Yarra. Bruce and Martin - you have a right to like big, rich warm climate shiraz as much as others of us like variety. I think you missed the point the guys were making - we don't all want to drink just this sort of wine all the time. Parker's undue influence over Borde...

Rory From 12 months ago : 1996 Moss Wood Cabernet Deep red, blackish middle. Young on both nose and palate, displaying rich cassis fruit and oak. Seems almost bigger to me than when I tasted it on release – again showing the results of a great vintage for Moss Wood. It still needs some t...

1995 Hardys Tintara Shiraz Has softened nicely and now drinking well. Rich blackberry fruit with a fair input from vanillin (albeit quality) American oak on both nose and palate (17). 1996 Dalwhinnie Shiraz Also drinking well, although on a fairly long plateau. Typical powdery, spicy blackberry fru...

Daryl Use the search function - I posted a note on this in August 2003 (see below). There may be others also. "Deep dark red in colour. Deep and brooding earthy blackberry fruit, moccha and cedary oak on the nose. To taste, cedar-blackcurrant, moccha and earthiness - quite similar in flavour profile...
