Re: January 2023 Purchases

They raved about the R&S in the newsletter. I have tried it twice at CD. The first time I was unimpressed, the second, it was better but preferred the Moppa (and bought some) each time.

Re: Christmas 2020 Drinking

Keen to hear how the Rockford and Henschke are travelling, George! Rockford was on the plateau, integrated and with a real chocolate palate. Enjoyable but drink up. Henschke was plush and still with lots of up-front fruit (like many 98s), and a lovely bottle. But they were all blown away by a perfe...

Interesting re the '67 given that it was a pretty average vintage and rode on the coat tails of '66. Notwithstanding the magnum format, and I hate to broach this, but is there any chance that it might have been a ... fake?

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Auction purchases are fraught with risk, especially when one of the auctions is noted as having "potentially heat affected" wines. So last weekend, we had the following: - Chateau Cheval Blanc 1975: not heat affected, but corked like a @#$%ard. - Chateau Pichon Lalande 1970: not heat affec...

If you missed out, it's not the end of the world. Buy something else. No point complaining. If the winery can't supply you, they can't supply you. There's plenty more great wines out there.

I'm sure there's another thread on wine books but i thought id share this one. I'm currently reading 'Stalin's wine cellar' and it's pretty eye opening/hilarious to say the least. 2016 Mayer Yarra Valley Syrah 2010 Petaluma Coonawarra. This bottle was quite flat and uninviting. Gave very little away despite a 2+ hours Decant. Still quite a bit of cedar on the nose. Very thin palate....austere or stringent if you will. Lacking fruit and weight. Can help but thinking this was ...
