Re: Tempranillo in Australia
This is a variety I've found can stand alone as an Australian-produced varietal, even found the Jacobs Creek version acceptable as a quaffing red . It's a bit different from my mostly standard red wine fare of shiraz, cab sauv and blends of those. The other varietal Temps I've tried have been from ...

Re: TN: Nepenthe at the API Wine Club 23/10/09
I think these are very accurate tasting notes to describe the vintages; from my own perspective these are symptematical of many previous vintages also from Nepenthe. Nepthene have definately under delivered compared to ALL other adelaide hills producers. Don't get me wrong, generally across the boar...

Re: Central Otago Wines - anyone tried??
thanks for your feedback on the above wines, I look forward getting into them! On the same theme, I tried the following wines from Central Otago over weekend thus far: 2008 Avian Wines 'Night Owl' Pinot Noir. A fun wine, medium bodied at best, fragrent nose, nice fruits, finishing a touch short. Ano...

better late than never: 2007 Burge Family Winemakers 'G3' Superbly structured wine; medium bodied; dark berries, great complexity, the nose was intoxicating with hints of milk chocloate, touch of cinnamon, dried herbs and delegate french oak. Mouthfeel was unreal; smooth tannins, perfectly judged oa...

2006 'Drummer' Pinot Noir (Waitiri Creek Wines), Central Otago NZ fantastic wine from the minute it was opened. medium bodied, lively palate of bright red cherries and touches of ripe rasberries. well judged oak and overall balance; not overly long in length, but a wine that matched brilliantly wit...

2005 Darren Lehmann Shiraz (By Grant Burge) A salute to the great man! Like the man himself I was expecting a big robust Barossa Shiraz, however it is more elegant in style. A very reasonable wine and at reasonable price too. Good fruit and structure, it finishes a touch short and bitter on the pal...

I've always liked older savvies and I think the best wines will always age well. I agree completely, I have tried many older sauv blancs mainly from the Adelaide Hills. In my experience the better ones taste like an aged Semillon to me. I even served one wine blind to the initial winemaker some 6 y...

I was at the Providence Cellar Door in Tassie last week: All wines on tasting were of excellent quality; the 2004 and recently released 2005 Pinot were showing very well, the vintage variations were noticeable, the 2005 was the pick for my palate. The 2004 Chardonnay was very good also, but the 2005...

neverthless i would wait until i got down to Tassie and see what the weather is like. if it going to be raining heavily at cradle - which will mean you won't see much of Cradle Mountain or the other views than I would head to freycinet which at rthis time of the year should be full of bright blue s...

Re: New Zealand trip
Oh for a good Shiraz or Cabernet!!! If that is your preference and what you are acustomed to, then that is what you should stick to. I have been lucky enough to try many very good wines ex Central Otago sourced by a close relative that works in the industry. To me prices are high for 'everyday' dri...

2008 Vintage
This current (record) heat wave is causing a bit of havoc for the remainder of the vintage in SA. This is a quote from a Mclaren Vale winemaker this morning: 'the wineries are all panicking as the fruit has set so quick and they are all so unprepared ... to harvesters or wineries were really booked ...

Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Riesling 2007, SA $19 Pale sunflower gold colour. Notes of cold rock and sweet orange blossom. 2004 Pikes ‘Eastside’ Shiraz, Clare Valley On opening the wine did not offer much at all, so let sit in the glass for a fair while, after this time it opened up, the bottle was not decanted, but wish I had of in hindsight. The palate offered ripe red fruits (not over ripe), tobacco (mo...

2 really good kiwi whites over the weekend. 2007 Carrick Riesling (Central Otago) Off-dry in style, fragrant/perfumed nose with lime, mineral, as the wine warmed up a touch it got better and better. Re: TN Bleasdale Sparkling Shiraz (NV)
Dense, plummy, rich and delicious. Nary a hint of sweetness, just some juvenile leather notes, and the complexity of a $50 SS. A class above the Seppelts OSS (vintage). They should vintage this, and ask a few dollars more! $15-18 13% alcohol high quality cork / cage Drink now, or within 5 years. Ex...
