Terrible news. My sincere condolences to his family and friends - although I never had the chance to meet him, he was indeed a valued contributor to the forum. He will be missed.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
I haven’t had a Chardonnay this old before…. Great colour on it. It’s definitely tertiary. Stone fruit, bit of zest, wood shop, saw dust. It’s an interesting wine. Cheers Ed VinoEd: I opened a 95 Yattarna (the first vintage) in December 2022. Similar lurid colour, and still very drinkable given goo...

Re: July 2024 Purchases
There are several forums with extensive Bordeaux content, including VFM recommendations and such. My approach when I first started trying Bordeaux was to start with the left bank, and to try bottles from each sub-region to try to get a feel for how each represent. You'll find quality and some value ...

I have had one, with the type-written label. I'm not 100% sure of provenance, but I found it to be dominated by spirit - of reasonable quality nonetheless.

Waiting until the next vintage for fulfilment might be an option - if he was sold out, it may be that he simply doesn't have the wine to replace? Shame about the lack of communication though.

Pity about the Quinta do Noval - I had a 1995 a couple of months back that I rated very highly indeed.

Some reading here: https://www.wineberserkers.com/t/tn-a-large-ribeira-sacra-mencia-tasting-plus-a-random-bunch-of-other-wines/169836/2 Olivers Taranga have released a varietal Mencia (as opposed to the Rose mentioned above) in the past apparently, although I've not tried it. Great recommendations above. As a point of difference from the new style of finer-boned Grenache wines, you may also want to try a Greenock Creek Cornerstone. This is the full-bodied, full-bore old style - or used to be!

Re: So what wines are on the Xmas menu this year?
which rather keeps the discussion open as to how the Primo Joseph fizz ages :) I'd still say you'd want to consume within 10 years or so IMHO. I've a few more vintages coming down the line so will comment further moving forward. I still think it's great off the bat and with a few years to settle in...

Re: So what wines are on the Xmas menu this year?
Primo Estate Joseph 2001 disgorgement - the best bottle so far out of 9 I have cellared for the past 20+ years. Whilst the others have had a tawny port taste to the fore, this had the fruit to keep the older material at bay and was a delicious drink. Just 3 more left out of the original 9, and I'll ...

Re: So what wines are on the Xmas menu this year?
I'd suggest that Joseph is not a candidate for extended ageing, as the aged character and complexity is built into it from the get-go. I've started tucking into a six pack that I have professionally cellared for 20+ years, and although the bottles are in perfect condition, the dosage really does ten...

First time purchase for me, breaking my recent moratorium on wine buying. 23 August mailout for me; bought the allocations plus one bottle of Autres Terres PN. 1 x Grenache, 2 x SV, 1 x Chardonnay, 1 x Autres Terres PN.
