Parker on Australia (1) - Reactions please

From the latest Wine Advocate: "The real glories [in Australian wine] are the classic old vine, South Australian cuvees of Shiraz, Grenache, and occasionally blends of those two varietals with Cabernet Sauvignon." ... "One of the ironies about Australian wines is that the homegrown critics seem to e...

2001 Black Label Cab

Finally appeared on the shelves here for CAN $18.95. Very good. A little less dry on the palate than previous years I have tried, and generally easier to drink, especially at it opened up.

Almost at good as the 2001 Leconfield Cab, which is five bucks more....

1994 Pyrus

Hard to believe it is 10 years old and supposed to be a poor year. Tightly wound, not extremely dense. Dark garnet colour with little sediment

Not phenomenally flavourful by itself, but went well with marinated steak. Very dry.

Pleasantly surprised.

2001 Conundrum; 1990 Tahbilk 1860 Vines; 1996 Gallo Sonoma M

2001 Conundrum: This white blend is not as rich and cloying as in the past couple of years. Better drinking with food, but not sure its worth $Can 40. Beringer Alluvium White was just as good for ten bucks less. 1990 Tahbilk 1860 Vines Shiraz: Fruit had fallen away, otherwise not many signs of age;...

How's the 2002 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cab?

I saw the earlier thread about the 1998 reds, and saw the reference to the persistency of the Koonunga Hill. I agree. How is the 2002? It just appeared here in Toronto, and am wondering whether the quality is continuing. Halliday liked the 2001 (90), but haven't seen a note on the 2002. Thanks in ad...

Less Expensive Ageworthy Reds

The other night a few of us Australo-oeno-fans at dinner started comparing notes about some less expensive wines that we have found improve with age, and many that don't. A number of us have had varying experiences Rosemount Diamond Shiraz . From 1994 to 1996, it appeared to benefit from up to 5 yea...

2000 Coriole Mary Kathleen; 2000 Voyager Chard; 2002 Bin 65

Leafing thru the Parker OZ report, I discovered that I had already bought the 92-pointed Coriole Mary Kathleen, and knew that it was still in stock at the local gov't monopoly. Good reason to crack one and see if I should pick up any more. Had that smell that I can only call the Burgundy pinot stink...
