Tell them they're dreamin

Post by Red Red Wine »

HA

Can someone tell these store owners that they are dreaming if they expect people to pay $60 for a bottle of 04 bin 389 or even $50 for the 05 vintage in this current economy. It's expected that ones should eat the label as well just to get ones money worth with that sort of price hike.

HA

Discretionary spending of the fiscal stimuli? Rip 'em off while you can? It's curious that as the export market for Australian wines has diminished, the local prices for premium wines, particularly but by no means exclusively, Penfolds Bin wines have continued to edge, if not spiral upward.

I have some thoughts but am interested more in those of others.

Cheers

I dunno...

Perhaps as Southcorp are such a large conglomeration, with multiple brands, they are able to keep other brands at the same prices, or even lower at these times, yet forge ahead with their flagship brand. Herein, they will still break even or make a small profit. Also, noting of course that it is a couple of great vintages 04, 05, 06 in which they will be doing so in. This will force the market to buy less of these premium vintages of their flagship brand, which they are able then when times are better, to sell as back vintages, or museum stock at further inflated prices and make even more profit???
