April - what have you been buying...?

Post by Bick »

What's your hard earned dosh being spent on throughout April?

I'm spending no money at all on wine at present, except where it absolutely can't be helped... by which I mean my credit card's just been stung for Stonyridge Larose 08 en premeur. It should be a stellar vintage though and when I'm old and grey I expect I'll enjoy it enormously.

How about you?
Cheers,
Mike

Same as you brother; no money on wine at all at the moment. My wife and I have our second child on the way, and as such I have to 'consolidate' the cellar somewhat... There's a lot of crap in there that either needs drinking or giving away (really, I've got bottles in there that a pikey wouldn't touch)

It's a bit depressing not buying wine. I was at Dan Murphys at the weekend to pick up a few beers for a party and I looked longingly at the fine wine section....

That reminds me, I spoke to Cathy out at Stonyridge and promised to send through new card details for the 08. IMO it is still the best bordeaux blend made in over there that I have tasted so far. Did you or are you going to go to their Larose piss up? (can't remember when it is?)

The 'Casablanca' party is April 18th, but no unfortunately I can't go - shame as you'ld probably get an opportunity to try a very impressive vertical.

Stonyridge Larose 08 en premeur

yes, I think even I will be buying 08 Larose retail (from a shop that prices nicely - we all know the stupid variations!!). 08 Will be a great year for Auckland. The 08 Puriri Hills stuff will be gold as well judging on barrel samples.

Need to organise a vertical. I have been on the lookout for an event for a while, I never seem to hear about them if they do exist. We should get an interested party together and do it off our own back. One vintage per attendee or something. Ive got 96,99,00,04,05

I wasn't going to buy anything but there is a distributor turf war locally it would seem.

Craggy Range Le Sol 05, Sophia 06, Block 16 and their pinot. Just a few bottles of each.

Been nice drinking so far

Sounds a nice idea. I've only got 07 cellered in any quantity, but at least that's not on your list. Alternatively I could bring 97, 02 or 03.

2005 Château Franc-Pérat (France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Contrôlée)

1999 Hetszolo Tokaji Aszú 4 Puttonyos (Hungary, Hegyalja, Tokaji)

N.V. Chambers Rosewood Old Vine Muscadelle (Australia, Victoria, North East, Rutherglen)

2007 Concha y Toro Carménère Casillero del Diablo Reserva (Chile, Central Valley, Rapel Valley)

2006 Inniskillin Cabernet Franc Icewine (Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA)

2006 Inniskillin Vidal Sparkling Icewine (Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA)

N.V. Peter Rumball Wines Shiraz Sparkling (Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra)

2005 Podere Ruggeri Corsini Langhe Nebbiolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC)

The Rumball had an "18" on the bottle label (NFI what it means I assume 18th release)

I cannot recommend highly enough if you want to try wines you've never had before and potentially might not have seen, looked at, or been allowed to purchase - take your Mrs the day before she drops bub. Looking very much to heading out grabbing a bottle o' bubbles to add to the list as well.

I have a couple of contacts who are big larose people. let me do a bit of work and will guage the viability of doing this. I dont have many bottles of the stuff but completely happy to bring whatever wines are required. Might as well enjoy them with those who are interested in them. We can then advertise for punters here

any other kiwis interested in organising something like this?

12 x Chateau Reynella Basket Press Shiraz, 1996

Some 2005 Bin 389 to follow I reckon and ...

Only a third? A 6 pack of HOG would take care of my entire annual budget

what is the 05 HOG supposed to be like? Whilst I think I have put down enough for my boy's birthyear, you can never be quite sure. By the way Jeremy what else did you grab for your daugher's birthyear. (It is also my son's birthyear).
