I'm out of action for a couple of days, so here's a quiz to keep you busy while I'm gone.
The winner will the individual who gets the REMAINING name correct first. Confused
There are 14 answers needed, if you correctly name one but the other 13 remain unanswered, you don’t win. Naturally if someone gets all 14 in the first response, they win. But then again, who cares, have fun with the answers.
Who made the following wines:
1952 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz
1981 Bests (Concongella) Hermitage
1978 Wolf Blass Black Label
1980 Saltram Mamre Brook
1963 Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
1977 Houghton White Burgundy
1973 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon
1982 Reynella Cabernet Sauvignon
1979 Leo Buring Rieslings
1982 Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon
1976 Penfolds Grange Hermitage
1980 Balgownie Cabernet Sauvignon
1967 d’Arenberg Burgundy
1979 St Huberts Cabernet Sauvignon

Very impressive list there! I think that the 76 Grange was Don Ditter's though. I think it was his first as well. Only know as it is my birth year
Duval didn't start until the late 80's.
cheers

The list of winemakers reads like a who's who of Australian winemakers. The only name I didn't recognize was Jon Reynolds.
Dave vino, I recognize some of the wines on your list as iconic wines of Australian winemaking. Are they all iconic wines? They certainly make a tasty, mouth-watering line-up.
Cheers.......Mahmoud

It is probably a shame Jon is not better known. He left Houghton's to work for the Wyndham Estate group when it was controlled by Brian McGuigan. Then bought his own place in the upper Hunter, Reynolds Yarraman (first vintage 1990 from memory). This business expanded with investors to be a large operation at Orange. The business got into trouble and went under. I believe most of the vineyards and winery were bought by Philip Shaw.
Does anyone know what happened to Jon? I did 2 vintages under him (89 and 90). He is a top bloke.

Is that including the 76 Grange? I know St Huberts is wrong, unless they used an Oujia Board to make the wines...

No winner this week
however, honorable mention to Dave. The winemakers were:
1952 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz - Ian Hickinbotham
1981 Bests (Concongella) Hermitage - Trevor Mast/Viv Thomson. Trevor went to Bests as winemaker in the mid 1970’s before eventually devoting all his energies to Mount Langi Ghiran
1978 Wolf Blass Black Label - John Glaetzer
1980 Saltram Mamre Brook - David Armstrong
1963 Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon - Ron Haselgrove
1977 Houghton White Burgundy - Bill Hardy - Jon Reynolds was appointed winemaker at the end of 1977
1973 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon - Bill Pannell
1982 Reynella Cabernet Sauvignon - Geoff Merrill
1979 Leo Buring Rieslings - John Vickery
1982 Wynns John Riddoch – Definitely John Wade (the Wynns website must be wrong)
1976 Penfolds Grange Hermitage - Don Ditter – Penfolds Chief Winemaker
1980 Balgownie Cabernet - Stuart Anderson
1967 d’Arenberg Burgundy - Francis d’Arenberg (d’Arry) Osborn
1979 St Huberts Cabernet Sauvignon - Ernie Cester - Hubert De Castella established St. Huberts in 1862 and had long since passed away by 1979!

Jon Reynolds is doing a fair bit of consulting at the moment. One of the wineries that he is looking after is Angullong in Orange.
