Barossa and dining

Post by Gavin Trott »

Hello

Heading up for a (hopefully) relaxing weekend on the Barossa Valley this weekend.

I'm a bit out of touch, but where are good places to dine out up there currently?

anyone in the know, what's good, and what's hot?

Feedback valued!
regards

Hi Gavin....sent you an email but I thought I'd post here also.

I've dined at Appellation, Vintners and 1918 within the last three weeks and all were very good. Appellation is the pick of the bunch....the dego is excellent.

Dave

Got the email, and many thanks.

Opening up to wider ideas, but really appreciate the help mate!!

BTW

Off subject completely, but tried the 2008 Teusner Sauvignon Blanc the other night.

Excellent wine, terrific stuff, thought it out Sav Blanced Shaw and Smith and most of the others .. !!

dined last week at 1918 - very nice although the cheese plate was basically generic and boring.

friend had anniversary weekend and Appelation rated "best meal I have had in SA"
and followed up the next night at Murdock with "worst meal I have had - left without finishing inedible mains"
Drink the wine, not the label.

Possibly one of the strangest wine lists I have seen, as far as prices go. They can't seem to make up their mind with the prices running from almost the same as CD retail for some wines to 5 times that for others. That is current vintage wines. Even crazier on the older stuff.

We went to 1918 a couple of months ago with some freinds and had a really great meal - the food was fantastic! We took our own wine - corkage was OK from memory but had a"nightcap" from their list to finish the meal. It gets a bit noisy, but thats all part of the atmosphere.

I'm keen to recommed it - good food, good service and good value - say no more!
