LG wine fridges?

Has anybody got or tried out the LG wine fridges? They seem best value for capacity compared to Vintec etc.

If so, how is the vibration and noise? Any feed back would be appreciated

They are probably fairly new onto the market. Also as they are sold in white good stores, they probably appeal to gadget buyers and wine liker rather than the sort of wine tragic that frequents places like this one. :wink:

A wine tragic I am Ric. Would rather spend the extra mullah on wine. Just donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t want to fork out "thousands" of dollars for a wine fridge at the moment. I already have the Dome 24 btl type which works like a charm but I currently do not have the space to accumulate the amount of fridges I need to store my wine. Will be upsizing houses in next few years which will have to have an extensive cellar attached (canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t wait). So justifying one to two thousand is ok, just not three and half upwards (Transtherm etc).

They are definitely not your run of mill generic pieces of crap (well as far as IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m aware) but obviously the only real test is usage. Oh well, guess I might be the first to try and report back.

. Thanks Ric, it is what I'm looking for but I've just purchased the LG this arvo (great price of $1550). Would have definitely considered that model for sure (almost exactly the same in specs), but would wonder how much it would cost for transport to Perth. As mentioned, I will report back for those interested in how it performs.

LG is at the top of my$hit list at the moment. My LG 106cm plasma TV, which is only 3 years old has a major bloody problem; just as well I took extended warrant on it, but it will take weeks to be fixed/replaced.

When I did some searches on it, it turns out that this TV may be a gigantic lemon, and if you believe what you read, one US insurance company is taking legal action against LG because of it.

My nephews wifes mother bought an LG fridge about 3 years ago, and 6 weeks later, it shorted out, and burnt her house down.

I would never buy an LG product of any sort. Absolute crap.

Hmm, well that's a good reason to avoid LG in your case.

I'm sure in their defense there have been numerous other fridges that have managed to burn down houses too but the point is taken...

Brucer, wine fridge or normal fridge? They do sell a hell of a lot of fridges so for my sake wouldn't be so concerned (sorry for your Mum in-law though), but if it was the wine fridge :cry:

Then about a year later, I cut out of the paper a product safety recall notice, one two products.............
LG Dishwashers, 7 models manufactured between Nov 01 and Jan 03
and
One LG washing machine, No WD-8013F, made between Apr 02 and June 03

the reason they were recalled......

Bloody hell LG. One would hope these faults in Fridges,dishwashers and washing machines have been fixed. Simply bloody pathetic build quality.

Thats why I would never buy any LG product.

That's a bit like me striking off a whole winery range 'cos I struck one or two with brett - totally illogical, but we still do it.

I've got two LG fridges and an LG TV, had no problems with any of them so far.

When I did a search the amount of flack given to LG really surprised me; it looked to be way bigger than normal. From what the repairer says, they basically warned me that there was a good chance that I would also be waiting for parts if the insurance company said to rapair rather than replace.

Hi Brian,
If an appliance is faulty, we tend to deal with it.
But when an appliance is faulty, and burns your house totally to the ground, nothing left..........and to see this recall notice for two more products not long after the fire, and the fault is the same, and causes fire, well, its the bloody icing on the cake, for me anyway.

Where was the recall notice published? I can't find any trace of a recall notice on the LG site (Aus or global) or any other Aus site, only one report in Canada..

Hope the fridge works for you Sam. Alot of compressor type fridges seem to do a fair bit to isolate the vibrations, hopefully it will solve your storage problems for a while at least

Ric my LG tv went after 3 years as well lucky for extended warranties. It took 4 weeks because they said repair, though it was the agents fault for not listening to what we said was wrong. When we first got the tv it went for 2 hours then stopped, replaced, 2 months later a big blotch in the middle of the screen, after much debate replaced and then the 3 year misshap.

Fridge still doing good though

Since this thread is well and truly hijacked already, an amusing LG story - a friend bought an expensive Loewe TV some years ago, still the CRT type. He had to have some special de-gaussing and adjustment done and noticed when the cabinet back was off that the tube had a little label saying made in Korea by LG. :-)

To get things back on track and to also write my first post after a long time of lurking. I have been very happy with my LG wine fridge (the W81BXG). It runs at a constant 14 degrees and around 70 percent humidity with no noise. or percepable vibration. It also fits the number of bottles that they suggest, which is a first for a wine fridge in my opinion.

I normally don't like LG gear and also have two small Vintecs which are far noisier and I definitely think the LG is a betetr unit and provides betetr value.

It arrived on Sat and seems to be as you said. Temp is great, no obvious vibration, virtually no noise what so ever and it fits a heap of wine (not bad looking to boot). My only issue is the irregular bottles are causing problems when stacking (like Seppelt St Peters Shiraz). I found myself moving and rearranging bottles for quite a while then just gave up and shoved them in best I could. I do understand this has nothing to do with brand of fridge or anything. Also started to catalogue my wine but got fed up ripping into cartons, taking bottles out of old fridges into new etc etc. This will prove to be a big problem in the future but I did leave most of my ready to drink in a decade + wine closer to the bottom of the big stack. I do have a six pack of 04 Di Madeline to put in still though.

Anyway cheers all, IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve learnt a lot about the trails and tribulations of LG as a brand.
