Adelaide Cellar Renovation Help?

Post by JamieBahrain »

Not much of a handyman so was hoping the ADL fraternity might be able to help. I need to establish some basic shelving in a professional storage facility.

Yes. I've been pointed to Bunnings but can anyone recommend a handyman or have any similar experiences?

Well I would have to say I don't have one. I just can't see this project being very expensive.

ok, but what is your "basic" expectation?

Are you keeping these wines in storage long term, or do you need quick access to individual bottles etc.

How much space is there?

It is around 8 foot across and 25 feet deep. 10 feet vetically too.

I don't access the wines often but would hope for good 'accessability'. Something along the line of sturdy and deep shelving toward the back and some on one side.

www.racking.com.au

I use it for timber storage, would be perfect for storing wine by the case.

Thanks Hunter Man. That looks great. No Adelaide outlet though.

Anyone in Adelaide aware of a good handyman?

Thanks for the PM's. I have been given a shelving contact and also a handyman if the job is too big for me- and it probably will be !

By the way, had an excellent bottle of Johan Georg last night!

That's my cellar organisation at work- sort of regional. The other two thirds of the cellar have Bordeaux, Rhone, Germany for example. It worked well until things started maturing!

Shelving will be brilliant- I hope.

I try to buy some JG each year. Nice wine on release and hope it ages well!

Don't know what you've been recommended but bunnings (or any other similar hardware outlet) does have some very easy to put together and cheap shelving units. They have two types, the ones that have metal shelves, which are a bit lightweight, especially for cases of wine, and the ones that have wooden shelves which can take up to 50kgs or more a shelf. They are often less than $60 a set and it looks like you could probably fit either five or maybe seven in that space. They also just bang together so you don't need a handyman. The key requirement is configuring the shelves so that there's the least amount of space between each shelf and the cases of wine so you maximise your space. You can get them up to six feet high and they are usually three feet across or so.
Cheers,
Kris

Chuck

I reckon it holds 4000 bottles. I have 2000 in that particular cellar.

On the right, looking in, there is capacity for two big twelve case lengthwise, with three on top of each other.

The other shelves on the left are perfect for 6 packs.

Just brilliant!!!! I am rather stoked wit the arrangement.

There is still room for a rack of quaffers and on the left there is room for 20 cases of Wendouree wines stacked on top of each other - built to last like the wines themselves!
