I will be travelling to Far North Queensland in the next few days, just wondering if anyone here can help me find the best place to pick up some wine on my way through Cairns.
I have heard that there is not much chance of picking up anything of note the further I travel up the coast.
I am wanting to pick up some Granite Belt wines aswell, any suggestions !

Not in Cairns, but Port Douglas has an amazing bottle shop, located in the main street next door to Coles. I was very surprised of the reds they had on offer.

Was there (Port Douglas/Cairns) just three weeks ago. Sorry deano that shop has a few good wines in there I admit, but prices were way over the top. Couldn’t bring myself to buy anything. There is a shop on Port Douglas rd just near Gone Bananas that I picked up a bottle of Brown Bros Patricia Shiraz 02 for around $40 or less (from memory) which wasn’t too bad a price considering location. In Cairns the best place is 1st Choice liquor for a huge range and not bad price (go here if you can). Picked up a Voyager cab/merl 03 for $35. Can absolutely 100% recommend that wine to boot. Oozes class already.

Partagas, I agree with the high prices, i never bought from there either...just stuck to a few SBlanc and plenty of RTD Jim Beams from the local...i'm not in the mood to drink reds in PD.
