Question about Giants Creek HV Chardonnay

Post by Nayan »

Does anyone know what's happened to this wine?

And if it's not made anymore, any idea where the fruit goes to now?

TIA

I have good memories of that wine. I picked up a few bottles at the winery in the Upper Hunter a few years back. I seem to remember it was quite subtle, as Hunter Chardonnays go.

Cheers,

Grown in sandy soil, and made in a subtler style than many other Rosemount offerings from the same period, it was my pick of their Chardy's too. I haven't seen it for years either. The last vintage I saw had a little Viognier in it.

Yep, that would kill any Chardonnay brand!

Nayan,

I think it is being relaunched- I recall seeing a sample review somewhere and the price was $40 ish...not sure if that was a mis print but they may also be repositioning it.

Went to the Giants Creek vineyard in the upper Hunter about 10 years ago and remember the '95 as a wonderful wine (almost Chablis like). I found a few bottles in the clearance bin at Rosemount McLaren Flat cellar door a few years later for $5 a botlle!! Bought all they had but unfortunately never saw the wine again. Probably part of the Southcorp rationalisation of brands about 7 years ago. Sad :(
