Hi Forumites,
I have a bottle of '95 Tyrrells Vat 47 Pinot Chardonnay that I'm looking to open. I was wondering if anyone had tried one recently. i know that they can cellar fairly well, but 12 years may be pushing it.
Thanks in advance,

Tyrells Vat 47 Chardonnay 1995
Deep yellow colour, funky, cheesy nose and very complex palate with a whole manner of nuts, spices and barnyard evocations thrown into the mix. Very long and very fresh for a wine of this age. Fantastic, a real surprise.
This is my note of the wine, above. I found it remarkably fresh still. Tasted about three months ago and cellared well I'd say.

Further to Wayno's 1995, I recently had a 1998 Hunter Valley chardonnay (Lindemans 9281) and it was amazing! Okay, so it was only 9 years old but still plenty of life ahead of it.
You could be in for a treat.

The '95 is definatly drinking really well right now.
I had one a couple of months ago with scallops and prawns, made a very simple sauce for them with a glass of the wine a little butter and a few fresh herbs. Great way to spend an afternoon!

Hi Guys,
Had the Vat 47 last night. Opened up relatively fresh for a 12 yo Chardonnay. There was still fruit, with lovely complexity - nutmeg, spice and some complex earthy flavours. Long palate with a real silkiness to it.
Lovely surprise!

I had an 86 Vat 47 a couple of weeks ago. The notes should be handy. Anyhoo, fresh as a daisy. No worries about these wines keeping!
