Wine recommendations for a casual early lunch

Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for a low key affair, where there may not be a lot of alcohol (early, kids etc) but want to have something available.

We might have a beer (am I allowed to say that here?) but ideally I want a bottle of wine (or several) suited to the time and formality.

I used to drink Sav Blanc in the afternoon with a light lunch, but was looking for some more interesting suggestions.

Budget around $20 if you want to recommend a specific bottle.

Thanks

I'd go for a white wine if the above is what you're eating. Probably something without oak.
If you like something a little sweet (not dessert sweet), you could do worse than the Bellarmine Auslese Riesling. It's at a few independent retailers. It's a superb wine with only 8% alc. as a bonus !
I reckon it'd go great with the fruit. May not be such a good match for the salad though...

The O'Leary Walker - Watervale Riesling or any of the other Clare Valley Reislings.
Plenty to choose from around $20!! Wilson Vineyard, Clos Clare, Pauletts, etc.

Moscato. Asti preferably, but there are some very passable Australian versions around.

Love those low alcohol German Rieslings. Also Pegasus Bay Aria 2006, which is sensational, only has 7.5% alcohol.

for a casual lunch id prob more go for the std 2006 Pegasus Bay Riesling or even 2006 Craggy Range Glasnevin gravels riesling or 2005 Camshorn Classic Riesling

I reckon that waipara style is so interesting, arresting and zany - great for lunch and usually light in alcohol.

The 2006 Pegasus Bay Aria is sensational as Sue says, but id probably have it as part of an evening affair personally.

That's your choice Craig, but it's beautiful for breakfast, brunch or lunch too. :-)
