Gavin asked me to resign.....

Post by Serge Birbrair »

Gavin,
I betcha you don't have Jack the Ripper in your bloodline,
usually this doesn't come in the form of request.
:)

Sorry to see you playing populist card, but, it's your show and you can run it any way you see fit.

Thank you all who posted in my support,
your inteligence has been noted and appreciated.

Good bye.

Your kidding?

You were asked to leave?

If that IS true, shame on this forum.

We cannot all get along, and if we did how boring would that be.

Comon Dan, wouldn't you be a little bored without Serge?

He's banned on most other wine forums, including *Forum, this one was the one that tolerated him the longest.

Shame on you for not knowing that. :-(

Does not make it right RB.

Has he violated any of your forum rules?

Not my forum, it's Gavin's. Could probably find something under this though: "You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws."

Looking at that, I'm lucky to be still here. As are a few others...

I've already posted a message on the Poll thread but the other issue is that Serge clearly has language and cultural differences to most Aussies.

I give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he doesn't always get our "original turn of phrase" and is trying to fit in. Sometimes he misses the mark or the wrong message comes across. He's just trying to have a bit of fun. It'd be a shame if the only thing ever posted was tasting notes with no personal comments attached.

As stated above, there are plenty of others who have pushed the boundaries as far as Serge on past occasions. I'd hate to think he was being singled out because we are too intolerant to allow for his cultural differences.

And, of course, people can always ignore his posts or avoid his threads if they don't like the way he interacts.

I am with Ratcatcher on this one. I think Serge has contributed some great posts to this forum, albeit with some rather quirky headings....but isn't that the point, to get people to read the post itself? Afterall, who didn't read those posts with the off-beat headings?!

A community such as this can get overly protective of its status quo and then persecute the very thing that forums are designed for. Heck we have all rubbed somebody the wrong way before, but thank goodness these things blow over, and everybody usually moves on positively.

One thing is for sure. When Serge is in the area it is guarantee that it want be boring.

Just have a look how many views and comments for his topics.

By asking him to change his behavior we are castrating the bull testicles. I wish him a pleasant vacation in the kangaroos land.

Like what do you think fellow old timer? more chance that the netherlands beat australia in world cup cricket.

Serge was too weak, he shoulda just asked for forgiveness and stayed. From my dealings, Gavin doesnt seem unreasonable. In fact he is pretty forgiving.

My care factor for forum politics isnt high enough to bother looking up the word 'protest'.

Anyone that misses him can always go to his own chatroom. Had a look myself. Mmmm. Form your own opinions but I'll be staying put.

Whilst I concede the idea of banning someone from the forum is a tad heavy, the practical bonus is pretty obvious. Serge's posts are/were often inflammatory, irrelevant or often just plain confusing. Not that we don't need confusion in our lives every now and then but... ultimately I would support Gavin's move in this case. Good one.

At the moment I'm trying to work out which was the least unpalatable...

- Dan Clarke's initial, crass "should Serge be banned" poll,
- Gavin formally asking Serge to resign and disappear as a result of this rubbish,
- the absolutely ****house selection of 1998 Shiraz we had at BTs tonight.

I'd toss a coin but I can't seem to find one with three sides.
Needless to say all this have left me completely jaded. I think I need a good nights sleep.

Cheers,
Ian

Careful Glen... that almost sounds like a Serge-like comment.

Ps. I haven't seen you and your better half in ages - fancy making an appearance at the next offline and showing Chas the true meaning of "options bastardry" that you're renowned for.

Ian, yeah it was a bit....a lot.
To be honest it was just a jab. I never expected it to see the light of day. but it grew legs. The longer it stayed up the more I looked like a dick.
But hey....this place will be a ton (hugely) better with out him.

Now can someone post a new topic? Maybe Brian on some good whites or something? just jokes joyce

How about some exciting new labels doing alternative red varieties brian. (in another thread )

cheers

I'm sad it came to this, but I'm sure it was only a matter of time. I'm sure Serge will wear it as a badge of honour, or at least take it in his stride.

Maybe it's a reminder to us all that we are a community and it's good to get on with others. By all means be ourselves, but provactive doesn't have to be offensive.

I wish Serge all the best and I'm sure he'll continue to have fun.

regards

Ian

I thought his "I hate Kiwis" post was related to eating some flightless bird during his trip to NZ, after the Muskrat expose.

Boring! It just turned out that he found that he enjoyed some NZ SBs.

No great loss though......... :?

Cheers

Serge will benefit from a little absence so he can re-think his wine writing ways. Gavin is right about his decision.
But I am already looking forward to Serge's probably glorious, balanced and focussed return in 2008!
Cheers,
Attila
