As per the subject line I have recently joined the forum (although have been lurking for some time) and am new to cellaring. I have always wanted to start a cellar but never really got around to it. Regular consumer, but never a cellarer.
I am an expat Australian currently living in Jakarta. A mixed case of De Bortoli wine for me and my significant other from her family as a Xmas present this year gave me the excuse to start a cellar. We started a managed cellar.
We will probably be living here in Jakarta for the next 2-3 years so don't really need much in the cellar to drink in that period. Maybe a special bottle or two or three at xmas when home. We want to have a decent cellar of wines ranging from ready to drink when we get home in 2009 - 2010 through to mid and longer term prospects. In the interim we will be forced to pay exorbitant prices for poor to average quaffers here in Indo.
Of course living overseas presents problems with the opportunity to taste wines prior to purchase. My trips home will have to feature tastings. I am going to be tasked with fairly quickly trying to ascertain whom my pallete aligns with and trusting their judgement
