Santa must of needed to clear his cellar out this year.
When does he drop a bottle like this into your stocking?
Questions of where and when should it be opened flew through my mind. who would enjoy it with me? After a couple of seconds deliberation ( an eternity for a piss fit person like myself ) the decision was made; me! I am to have it all to myself.
The bottles level is outstanding, with minimal amount of the wine gone. Foil all intact and no signs of leakage.
After carefully removing the foil and examining the cork, all looked well. The cork showing a touch of saturation from the wine came out all in one piece, much to my relief. Not even a hint that it would disentergrate on me.
In the glass the opulent nose showed some secondary agening notes, with an underlying tone of stewed dates, cinnamon, and pencil shavings. Wafting from the glass the bouquet was overt, a good sign of things to come.
The colour and vibrancy of the wine is outstanding as it clings to the side of the glass with red brick and ochre hues. The wine itself is a touch opaque whilst still retaining a vivid red colour ( likening it to a young Gamay in colour ).
The palate and mouthfill of the wine is extraordinary for a wine of this age and obscurity. Sliding from front to back palate with velvet like tannins whilst still showing some excellent structure. Flavours of figs, aniseed and chikory dominate the profile, with secondary aspects of subtle spice and hints of white pepper.
The wine was outstanding. It suprised me because I thought it would be absloutely terrible, as I could not find out any info on this wine.
If you have a bottle in your cellar, it will probably keep for about 6 more years. Or you could just be a glutten and drink it by yourself, just like me.
Once again thanks dad.
Let's see what he conjours up next year.
Cheers, Wine Bloke.
