don't think I'm right but reminds me of Somerset Hill in Denmark. They make a great Pinot/Chard sparkling if you ever get to try it.

If I am correct, I seem to remember you parting with some $$$ to buy a half bottle at this place.

No idea but guessing at Seppelts Drives although it's probably in WA somewhere.

Well, for what it's worth, I was their Assistant Winemaker for the 2005 vintage; so I do know the winery pretty well :D

Had a bottle of the 2002 St Ignatius last night. Lovely Clare Cab that kept getting beter and better over 2 hours.

Agreed. Love the balance of fruit and eucalypt in this. There is also a nice bit of complex Brett giving it another level of interest.

The 2003 (not released yet) is a lovely drop as well. More forward than the 02, but no less interesting.

I was at Sevenhills' cellar door back in 2001. It had been a hot summer and they were sold out of many of their whites. I wasn't impressed by their St Ignatius (I can't remember the vintage) but I quite liked the 1987 Vintage Port and their older tawny port. I also liked their cheaper blend, the 1999 STM of Shiraz/Touriga/Malbec, which was dark, inky, and full of character.

I recall them saying that they would no longer be making vintage port, that the coming 1988 Port would be the last vintage released. They said that people were no longer interested in drinking and cellaring vintage port. I thought it was a real shame. I bought six bottles of the 1987 Vintage Port (which I still have) and some of their old tawny port (great label by the way) as well as the 1999 STM.

Anyone know if it is true that Sevenhill no longer makes vintage port; did they have any at their cellar door? I am curious. Thanks.

Cheers.............Mahmoud.

I know that Tim Gniel, in his tenure as winemaker, made Shiraz based fortifieds in 2004 and 2005 that were destined to be vintage ports. Both were excellent when I last tasted them a few months ago.

I am not sure whether the 04 has been bottled and released yet. You could try contacting the Cellar Door Manager, Richard Ellerman, to find out.

By the way, I no longer have any connection to Sevenhill. But I do have a soft-spot for it.
