I love to browse through a wine list on those special occassions my wife lets me out of the house. Even though I BYO when I can, I am sometimes tempted to purchase the treasures that can sometimes be gleaned from these lists.

Has anyone found any recently ?

If you live in Sydney, drop in to Stuyvesant House restaurant in Crows Nest for a bite to eat and hours of fun looking through the wine list. 'Book' in this case is probably a better word than 'list'. Prices were stupendously cheap the last time we were there and I think we're about due for another look and another entertaining read!

I don't think it's a BYO by any means. But if their Monday nights are as quiet in the trade as everyone else's seem to be, then it might be a possibility. Except, I seem to recall it being rather tightly packed, and I'm not sure how boisterous tables of a dozen+ would be welcomed.

As far as their wine list goes, although the prices were generally pretty good, that was sometimes a reflection of the age of the listing, and consequently the length of the odds that the bottle was still in the cellar! Some years ago, we were working through the list, and had to settle for our 4th choice...

What do I most like to see on a wine list? The words "Corkage $1.50 per person" at the bottom...

Seriously, I look at them with horror, generally because I'll find several bottles listed at 5x the price i paid for the same wine!

cheers,
Graeme

Just came back from lunch. The wine list was so boring that we ordered by the glass.

If you come to the Nth Coast

Seven Mile Cafe at Lennox Head has an excellent wine list..its been a while since i've been there but for a Rockfords lover it was great to go out for dinner up here and find various vintages of Basket Press shiraz amongst the many gems. I cant remember what wines they offered by the glass but their selection of wine would hold its own in any city in oz.

The restaurants in Byron have average wine lists..Wild has a small but nice selection..Dish is average..bad for a so called wine bar..so if your up this way have a drive to Lennox.

The only thing bad about Seven Mile is to food can bet a bit hit and miss from all reports..though my meal was devine.

If anyone happens to be in Wellington soon and feels like a splurge. Got a call from a friend last night who ate at Logan Brown. They have Pichon Lalande 1982 on the list for $700 Kiwi. Sounds like a pretty reasonable price if you're in a group of 4  The last auction here Magnums of it were going for $1300.
