Brisbane Wine Club -(#4) Brents

Brents looks good. Count me in. Any suggestions for a date so we can check diaries?

Any suggestions for a theme? A region? A varietal or two? A particular vintage? A style? "World Wines" to go with the World Cup  .

Perhaps it's time for a new thread.

Michael

Ah....a new thread.

Yes some dates would be a good idea. Perhaps a big reds theme is appropriate for winter, from around the world >$30?

How about 23rd or 30th of June? I think corkage there is $7 per bottle or per person. I'll give em a ring and maybe we can organise something. If we are only 8 there is an awesome little room upstairs that would be perfect.

We leave for Adelaide for a couple of weeks on the 23rd. Might have to miss this one.

Brisbane Wine Club -(#4) Brents Time for Confirmation

Post by redstuff »

Ok folks,
I contacted Brent's and either of those two dates - 23 and 30th of June are fine for 8-12 people (or possibly more).

beef said :
"Meetings will happen strictly on the 4th Thursday or Friday of each month hereafter (I include Thursday, only because one of my favourite restaurants won't accomodate a party of our size on Friday or Saturday). It's important to maintain regularity so that people can plan accordingly. I apologise for letting this slide. "

If 23rd is too early we can always stick with the "4th Friday" and go for the 30th.

Theme: Cab Sauv over $30?

Hi guys

Sorry for the delay in replying. In between watching football through the night :D and working during the day, the time for other things slips away.

I haven't spoken to Yasmin, but will ask her about the 30th. I would prefer not to do the 23rd as the Australia v Croatia match is on early that morning (and I will most likely be a tad tired).

Will post tonight

Michael

Who else is up for the 30th?

Sorry I didn't post on the weekend. I don't think we can make the 30th either :( . Can I suggest we postpone till next month (ie after the World Cup)? I have used up a lot of brownie points this month. Same venue, same theme?

Should we mark a date in our diaries now? 28 July (last Friday of the month)? Happy to make it another date if that is unsuitable.

Just noticed that this is the same day as the the Adelaide offline. Wonder if we can arrange to have the same wine at both? Allow us to maybe do a bit of palate calibration and final lay to rest the question as to whether Queenslanders have different tastes to South Australians.

What do you think??

Any chance of a late entry for one? My schedule has suffered a purging.

I'll bring a 2003 Schubert Estate Goose-Yard Block Shiraz, with a 2001 Paxton Shiraz as backup.

Stuart: I booked for 10 but we had a cancellation so that's fine.

Theme is "something red" (over $30).

Should i organise a set menu or is everyone happy picking from their current menu? Not sure if everyone wants to do entree, main, dessert.

Hi all

Yasmin won't be making it on Friday, but I will be there. I take it that there is a bit of a shiraz theme building, and the nominated wines (including the Serafinos) all seem to be from south Oz, so I will bring a SA Shiraz. Have to let you know what later.

Any stickies/ports in the offing? Happy to bring one.

I just gave Brent's Restaurant a ring and negotiated a corkage fee of $5 per bottle (usually $ 8). However if everyone could decant their wines before, it would make their life easier. Also they said they have riedel glassware so no need to bring our own glasses.

cheers

Decided that sparkling shiraz was missing from the lineup. I will rectify this with a 1995 Leasingham Classic Clare Sparkling Shiraz.

I will bring a bottle of the 2003 Marius Single Vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz as back up.

Brett, Yas is a definite non-starter.

Charles Melton Shiraz. + Serafino's.

Would anybody prefer a pinot or should I stick with the shiraz?

Sorry you can't make it Graham, but you wanted to have kids! (I hope  ). See you at the next one.

Shiraz! Shiraz!

Seriously though Craig, bring what you will my good fellow :D . I just don't 'get' pinot, but perhaps one day I will taste a bottle, the cogs will all click in my brain and I will be converted. Then again, maybe not.

Don't forget my wine cooler please!

While I am rambling on. A suggestion that the next dinner exclude South Oz and exclude shiraz  . Just thinking out loud which is always dangerous.

Too many emoticons......arrrggghhhhhhh!
