Morning All
Long time reader, first time poster.
Fairly new to this whole wine thing, so many thanks for all I've learnt from you guys over the last few months.
Haven't been writing down tasting notes up until now, so I'll start with a vague list of wines that have knocked my socks off recently. I'll try to get more specific from now on!
Cabernet
2000 Knappstein Enterprise
2000 Murdock
2001 Punters Corner
Shiraz
1994, 1999 Rockford Basket Press
2002 Hahn Catharina
2003 Marius
2002 Mitchelton Print
Sangiovese
2001 Fattoria Zerbina Pietramora
2001 Castello di Fonterutoli
Pinot
???? Bouchard Pere & Fils Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus
2000 Moorilla Black Label
Chardonnay
?2002 Leeuwin Art Series
Semillon
1998 Tyrrells Vat 1
Stickies
2002 Chateau Rieussec
???? Petaluma
There have been many, many more great wines in the last couple of years, but those would be the ones that stick in the mind.

Hi Nick,
The 1999 Rockford Basket Press is such an underated vintage - It is superb. I crack a bottle each year for my youngest ones birthday (not for him of course )

I hated the 2000 Murdock - Very complex and with excellent power but had far too much greenness, even for me, a person who is very tolerant to the greener aspects of Cabernet. Also had a layer of dark red berry ripeness without any focus, a pet hate of mine. 79/100. Surely a bad bottle given other people's comments.
2000 Knappstein Enterprise; 1999 Rockford Basket Press; 2002 Mitchelton Print; 1998 Tyrrells Vat 1... I look forward to your notes. You obviously have a good palate with these wines.

Hi Nick
How was the '94 travelling ?
Cheers, Mark
Thanks for the welcome all!
94 Basket Press was about perfect for my palate, but I've been blooding myself on young wines. It still had plenty of primary fruit to it and enough firm tannins to give it good structure, but it had mellowed out a bit compared to the younger BPs I've tried in the last few months. I reckon it still had at least 5 years to go, but if I had more I'd be looking for a good excuse to crack another bottle this weekend.

Hi Craig
Had the 02 Rieussec on Valentine's Day with my wife instead of romantic dinner, so maybe I was feeling a little sweet & sickly!
Was my first 1er cru Sauternes ever and was stunned by the mouthfeel & length of the wine compared to any Australian sticky I've had.
If the notes bouncing around here are anything to go by, I'll just have to intensify my search for the 01.
Cheers

Thanks Adair
At this stage I wouldn't make any claims about the quality of my palate - my wife would suggest that list says more about the size of my recent credit card statements! I'll just stick with:
I may not know wine, but I know what I like
And keep hoping that the more wine I find that I enjoy, the more I'll keep learning.
Cheers

I've had some outstanding bottles of the 2000 Murdock cabernet sauvignon as well (purchased mid 2000s), and still hold some in the cellar. Some bottles purchased a couple of years ago in the secondary market were less good, showing previously unseen herbal characters some mentioned and slacker colour towards the rim. Storage or cork or both emerge as the usual suspects.
